The alarm system on the dash display is contuining giving lamp fault signals even if the lamps is working. What can it mean? Thanks

If you start the vehicle it gives a warning signal and sound with alarm display saying rear fog light lamp faulty, brake light lamp faulty, left indicator rear lamp faulty etc. The problem is , the lamps are all working fine except for the left front headlight that recently blown.

You must have the dealer service dept scan the system to see what is causing the fault.

This indicates that your brake pads are worn bad enough for the warning light to come on. You need to have new pads put on the front before they dig into the rotors and have to have them turned as well. I would do this asap.

NO VIN told, why post? lighting is not the same world wide by laws in every country so be wiring too.
flash fast means dead lamps or shorted lamps

what if 1 of 4 lamps was dead?
the users guide tells you all that.
if flashes fast on dash look outside at the real lamps. turns;.
IT is a feature that flash rate is a warning,
and most are controlled by BCM body brain
that detects TURNS currents wrong, too high or too low. so you are alerted to fix it. now.

NO VIN NO JOY, no books , no parts no service.
lacking a vin
the dealer will not talk to you lacking VIN
unless the car is smack in front if them.
see why? so they don't lie to you.

I have a 96 Pontiac grand am we 2.4L twin cam the anti theft system kicked on but I followed the steps and reset it then it started coming back on reset ran fine then just one day bam died not like running...

the lamps you need to watch the lamps. they don't lie.
so now it dont start (but cranks)
the operators guide tells you what the lights mean, lost that.?
2 lamps are security or IMMOBILIZers have a lamp
  • off means OK
  • on means its bad ( locked out, )
  • flashing means that system is sick.
generally. got both lamps? look carefully.

IMMO kills engine, if car is tired to start. with wrong key. (and or fob)
security is theft alarm. and some cut spark others cut fuel other cut
some even cut cranking,
does yours crank?
or cranks ok but wont start.
no matter the lamps are FIRST> never last. never replace parts until you know what the lamps mean.

if skim is unhappy the car will not start for more that 2 seconds.

the 2 lamps SKIS or VTSS, what are they doing.?
the SYSTEM reports errors via the DTC memory
use any scan tool to see the errors.
DIY with no scan tool is impossible today. sorry. not.

eg: page 8q-5
skis lamp fashes means. wrong key, or corrupted key. (try spare fob)
same lamp solid , means SKIS is INOP.
this key is a transponder
never own ANY car like this with 1 key, or fail, or even get stranded.

the dash lamps are key (no pun) and so is the operators guide
get it and put it back in he glove box.

(we can't do wiring hacks here, only stock, not stock?good luck)

NOCODEs ?you mean DTC'S? but... that not all there is...
use a real scan tool, not a near useless code reader.
do this last after fuses and the dash lamp checks for IMMO?
is the IMMO tripping?
A REAL $9 Scan tool:
you crank and see RPM at zero the CKP is dead.
you crank 5 seconds, see p0340 or 355 or the like..., after releasing key.;
??????
btw all cars EFI cut fuel for p0340 or any code related to spark.
including zero RPM

it tells you exactly what the , lamps do in (alarm or IMMO , which IMMO does CUT FUEL. it's all there. you lost the guide?
Key code errors? on dash? the key lamp does show theses facts.

BELOW page 77 quotes in your glove box manual.
The immobilizer system protects
your vehicle from theft. If an
improperly-coded key (or other
device) is used, the engine's fuel
system is disabled

When you turn the ignition switch to
the ON (II) position, the immobilizer

Dash lights either work or not if the system is fused. With one light not working it suggests the problem is the lamp(bulb). I am sorry to say it has to be dash insert out to access behind where the lamps are located. Only competent people should do this for you. Only when the lamp is checked can you determine if thats the problem or if the fault is else where.

The first place to start is to retrieve any fault codes the on-board computer may have registered.

The flashing lamp you are seeing is alerting you to a possible problem with the braking system or a possible fault is occurring withing the IPS (Instrument Panel Cluster) itself.

So..the best advise I can give you is to have a mechanic do a scan check for fault codes. This may provide some idea as where to start looking for possible problems.

Turn on your lights,turn your turn signals on to either side and walk around the truck looking for a light burned out.Parking lights,turn signal,anything.If you don't find anything put your turn signal to the other side and walk around again.But most likely it's a parking or "running" light. The bulb out warning checks several different systems.Don't forget to have someone help you with back-up lights too.If it's time for 1 to go,there may be another.And have them step on the brakes and check those too.
Back-up and brake lights are 2 that you should never get a ticket for.

Starting System
The function of the starting system is to crank the engine at a speed fast enough to allow the engine to start. Heavy cables, connectors and switches are used in the system because of the large currents required.
The starting system consists of a gear reduced starter motor, battery, remote control switch (ignition switch) and relay.
Vehicles equipped with automatic transaxle have a transmission range sensor attached to the circuit which prevents operation of the starter motor unless NEUTRAL or PARK are selected.
Vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle have a start inhibit switch in the starter control circuit, which prevents operation of the starter motor unless the clutch pedal is in the applied position.

The anti - theft protection system provides protection from unauthorized entry into the passenger compartment.
The system is controlled by an anti - theft alarm control. When armed, unauthorized entry into the vehicle is detected by lamp switches.
Once triggered, the system flashes the headlamps, the parking lamps, the alarm indicator, and sounds the horn. In addition, the starter circuit is disabled to prevent starting the vehicle until the system is disarmed.
System Arming
The system will be armed by the remote entry transmitter when the following input sequence is followed:
  1. Turn the ignition switch off and remove the key.
  1. Close all doors (unlocked).
  1. Press the LOCK button on a transmitter to lock doors. Alarm warning lamp will turn on.
  1. Wait for the anti - theft warning lamp to turn off.
The system will also be armed when the following input sequence is followed:
  1. Turn the ignition switch off and remove the key.
  1. Open a door. Alarm warning lamp will flash.
  1. Lock doors with power door switches. Alarm warning lamp will now glow steadily.
  1. Close all doors.
  1. Wait for the anti - theft warning lamp to turn off.
Opening any door will activate the alarm after the alarm is armed.
Disarming an Untriggered System
The system can be disarmed by performing one of the following procedures.
  • Driver or RH front door is unlocked with a key.
  • Driver door is unlocked by pressing the UNLOCK button of a remote entry transmitter.
  • If remaining in the vehicle, turn the ignition switch to ON or ACC position.
System Triggering
The armed alarm system will be triggered if any door is opened without using a key or a remote entry transmitter to unlock the door first.
Disarming a Triggered System
Carry out either of the following steps will disarm the triggered alarm system.
  • Driver or RH front door is unlocked with a key.
  • Driver door is unlocked by pressing the UNLOCK button of a remote entry transmitter.
Two minutes and 45 seconds after the system has been triggered, the horns and exterior lamps will shut off automatically. The system will then reset to an armed state and will trigger again if another intrusion occurs.

Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS)
The Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS), known as SecuriLock, is fully passive in operation and requires no special procedures by the driver to arm or disarm the system. It is invisible to normal scrutiny and is operated by a transponder within the key body. This communicates with the module through a transceiver mounted around the ignition switch lock barrel.
The PATS functionality is incorporated within the powertrain control module.
PATS keys contain an electronic device inside, and are physically larger than a non-PATS key.
The transponder code reading is carried out when the key is inserted into the ignition lock barrel, and turned from position 0' to position II' or III' to crank the engine. If the PCM receives the correct code signal, the engine will start. Should the code received not be recognized, the engine will not crank as the PATS is still armed and the engine immobilized.
Anti-Theft Indicator
Whenever the ignition is switched on the anti-theft indicator will remain on for three seconds while the system carries out an initial ignition key-read.
The anti-theft indicator will flash rapidly for three seconds to indicate the PATS has immobilized the vehicle.

It means your vehicle's onboard computer system has self-diagnosed some kind of problem. The "Check Engine" light, which is also called a "Malfunction Indicator Lamp" (MIL) or "Service Engine Soon" (SES) lamp, is there to signal you when a problem occurs that may require attention. This can include anything from a momentary hiccup that has has little or no noticeable affect on engine performance or driving safety to a failure of a major electronic component. There's no way to know what the light means without running a diagnostic scan on the system to determine the nature of the fault.

As a rule, a continuous Check Engine light usually signals a "hard fault" or failure that has occurred. If the light comes on and off, or only blinks momentarily, the problem may be minor or intermittent in nature.

To help identify the problem, it helps to make a mental note of the conditions that occurred when the light came on. Where you driving at a certain speed? Accelerating or slowing down? Shifting gears?

On board diagnostic systems are very complex and require a fair amount of expertise as well as special tools to troubleshoot. To find out what's wrong, a technician has to "get into" your system through a diagnostic connector which may be located under the dash, under the driver's seat or in the engine compartment. The diagnostic connector serves as a port of entry for accessing information and/or for putting your vehicle's computer system into a special diagnostic mode for further testing or displaying "fault codes".

Fault codes are numeric codes that are generated when a problem is detected. If a sensor circuit reads out of range or some electronic component fails to respond to a command from the computer, the computer recognizes it as a fault and records a number that corresponds to the nature of the problem. The technician must then retrieve the code and refer to specific diagnostic chart or "fault tree" that gives him the step-by-step checks he has to perform to isolate the failed component. It can be a very time-consuming process depending on the nature of the problem. Usually the process works but sometimes it doesn't. An intermittent fault can be very difficult to track down, and may require repeated attempts to repair it.

Diagnostic Test Modes Without Scan Tool
Two mode options are available under the diagnostic test modes:
  • user mode.
  • diagnosis mode.
The ignition switch is used to alternate from one mode to another.
Diagnosis Mode
The diagnosis mode will display any fault present in the system. The SRS will not enter diagnosis mode if no malfunction is detected.
User Mode to Diagnosis Mode
NOTE: The SRS will not enter diagnosis mode if no fault is detected in user mode.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
  1. After the air bag warning indicator lights for seven seconds, set ignition switch to OFF within one second.
  1. Wait more than three seconds.
  1. Repeat steps 1 through 3 three times.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
Diagnosis Mode to User Mode — After Repair
  1. Ignition switch to OFF for at least one second.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
Diagnosis Mode to User Mode — During Diagnosis
NOTE: If switch from Diagnosis Mode to User Mode is required while diagnosing a fault, carry out the following procedure.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
  1. After the air bag warning indicator lights for seven seconds, set ignition switch to OFF within one second.
  1. Wait more than three seconds.
  1. Repeat steps 1 through 3 three times.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
Clearing Lamp Fault Codes
NOTE: Lamp fault codes must be cleared from memory before proving out the system.
NOTE: When a new RCM is installed, the air bag warning indicator will operate in user mode. Switching to diagnosis mode is not required.
To clear lamp fault codes after a repair, carry out the procedure to switch from diagnosis mode to user mode. Once in the user mode, the lamp fault codes will be cleared from memory.
Lamp Fault Codes
If the air bag diagnostic monitor detects a current fault, the fault code will be displayed with a flashing sequence of the air bag indicator. The fault code consists of:
  • A start signal to indicate the beginning of a fault code.
  • A number of flashes indicating the particular code that has been set.
The start signal:
  • begins with two seconds off.
  • two seconds on.
  • off.
  • one second on.
  • two seconds off.
Following the start signal, if any current fault is detected, the fault code will be displayed. The fault code:
  • is a series of half second flashes of the air bag indicator.
  • is followed by the start signal.
The start signal and the code for any current fault will repeat until the ignition is switched off or the air bag diagnostic monitor is switched to the user mode.
Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer concern by checking the air bag indicator in the instrument cluster. Refer to Prove Out in this section.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage using the following chart.

  1. If no DTCs are displayed in the Diagnosis Mode, proceed to the Symptom Chart in this section.
  1. If DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Fault Code Table in this section.
