I always use the push start option on my car. I have only owned this car far a couple of weeks and today there is a warning symbol on the dashboard saying my key is in the car or in the ignition but it is not. I looked in the manual to try to solve but it is not working. Any suggestions?
Interesting. Personally, I would remove the hot side of the battery and leave it off for about 30 minutes and then reconnect it. It sounds like something has corrupted. This will reboot your system.
If that doesn't work...call/write/chat with Toyota and explain what is happening and see if they have a suggestion.

hows your battery?,for the engine, not the electric motor,Prius, normally dont have any quirky issues with electrics, and behave normally if the car batery is flat,ie...it will behave like any other car if the normal battery is flat or old, check by jumping,(fuse box under hood has terminal for + and put neg(black) on suspension bolt ) 3 each strut top. That should work to see if thats your problem

That is to show that the alarm system immobilisor is on. Shut everything off, close all the doors, windows etc. Lock the car. Then open the car using the remote handset or key and try to start the engine, if it still does not start , then you may have to take it to the dealer to check and reprogramme the system. BTW, did you disconnect the battery prior to this fault ? this would explain why the system is immobilised. Hope that helps
