Hi renault scenic 2l auto 2002. another common problem.

Brake servo hissing when brake pedal not pressed, but when i press the brake pedal the noise goes and engine stalls. i am under the impression the brake servo is fine but the seals that sit on the pedal side of the servo are knackered as found a part of a seal on the drivers footwell. if i replace these seals will this resolve the hissing and the stalling. seems to be the opposite to what other people are saying

you mean you hear air in the cab down by the pedal. If thats the case your power steering assist is leaking. Its the big black unit behind the brake master cylinder. It may set a check engine light at times for lean condition.

My brake pedal will not budge, and a hissing noise present when running

The stop lights won't go out until the pedal is depressed, as there is a switch which is activated by the pedal.

A hard brake pedal is probably caused by a defective servo. The hissing noise is probably an air leak in the servo.

Switch the engine on, open the bonnet (the hood..) and see if you can locate the hissing - that'll probably be in the brake servo area.

If you don't know what a brake servo looks like here is a generic image:

Car looses power when brakes are pressed. In my 91 Buick Regal.

I wonder if you have an air leak in the brake servo? Check the manifold vacuum as you operate the brakes. Look for bad hoses around brake servo.

2002 volkswagen passat turb 1.8 brake fault code after installing a brake booster now I have a hard pedal

Hi if you have a hard pedal, i would suspect you have an air leak on the servo pipe which goes to the brake servo, this is the same pipe that the brake booster is attached to, if you run the car and listen you should be able to hear the air hissing out from somewhere, hope this helps Chris

Hi admasu

It seems that people when they don't fully understand how things work on renault's disrespect the manufacturer.
I can guarantee there is nothing wrong with your card.

Underneath the clutch pedal there is a clutch switch with two wires connected to it you have an open circuit one of the wires or both are broken.

They need to be soldered back together everything will be okay.
In my opinion it's best not to believe everything that amateur say only speak with professionals.

Hissing sound from brake pedal of Renault Scenic 2001

Hi,
From your description this appears to be a Brake servo issue.
The brakes are assisted by a vacuum created from the draw off the inlet manifold, it gives assistance too the brake pedal pressure by a large tank/cylinder mounted on the Bulkhead/firewall.
I feel that the sound you a hearing is air being draw into the Brake Servo from the foot pedal seal and the reason for fluctuation in the engine is the vacuum from the inlet manifold is being upset.
Attention I suspect should be addressed to the Brake servo/pedal seal or gaitor.
I hope this clarifies your thoughts?
Please remember to rate my effort.
