1988 nissan sentra

I can't get the air condition switch to light up and the air wont turn on the compressor dose not turn on. The fuses are all good. I even replaced them anyway. Before this happened I had most of the dash open trying to get the heater core out. I was able to fix the core without taking it out. but the air won't turn on. It looks like the wires are correct, but I have a strange feeling the wires are wrong. But that is the only wire that fits the switch. Now working on the cooling system, coolant spilled all over the air conditioner compressor and wires. I know their is a relay around that area. Could the relay stop the unit from working and also make the turn on switch not light up. I seems I am exusting all the option. Please help.

    Yes it worked fine before

  • jrocchio Dec 27, 2008

I know it work because I was having a heater core problem the would make the car over heat and I used the air conditioner extra fan to make it cool faster. I corrected the heater core by flushing CLR though it that made it flow perfectly. That was after not being able to take the core out even after taking the dash board almost completely out. Everything electrical in the car works fine. If it was not for the fact their are no other wires similar under the dash I would think it was the wrong wire conection. The fact that antifreeze spilled all over the air conditioner unit makes me think it might be under the hood electrical.

I did that last week and it seems that their is no relay in this car that I can find. I could be wrong, but if there was one would it stop the switch from lighting up. The web for this car says there is a relay and it is 35$ I would try it and match it up, but they say relays don't break down.

Did did not seem that I did.

My next step is a relay, but will the relay not give the switch power

  • jrocchio Dec 27, 2008

I don't know if it has power. I was not sure if the relay was bad it would stop the power to it. I also tried wire jumping bypassing the switch. I thought the switch might have been bad. Can the relay stop the switch from geting power.

  • jrocchio Dec 28, 2008

    No power to the switch

  • jrocchio Dec 28, 2008

I will try that because testing the wire at the switch there is no power

You didn't damage a wire, or knock one of your AC block by the firewall by any chance did you, off a pressure switch.

I would assume that the switch has power going to it already, so that when you push it/turn it, whatever & call for AC, it completes connection & sends power down the line to rest of system relays etc.

Any possibility of following the wires from switch? One should head toward fuse panel, the other probably out through firewall toward heater area. I would concentrate on the one heading toward fuse panel. I cannot find a definitive schematic on AC system yet, but what I have found is that there appears to be fusible links in the battery area, and an AC relay on passenger side behind shock tower. 2 more places to consider. I'd be real tempted to run my own (fused) jumper wire from fuse panel or other power source in area, to AC switch as a test to see what happens.

The fuses and relays cover all the windows, so the likely culprit is the door switch module.

I have 2011 Nissan Sentra. Yesterday the a/c worked fine. Today it blows only hot air (compressor not engaging). I checked the freon, it's good. I'm lost.

If your fuses are all ok, there is a good chance the climate control unit has failed (the piece with all of the dials and buttons).

1988 nissan sentra air conditioner no power

Not all switches switch the possitive side of the electrical cicuit, sometimes it switches the negative side and than you wont find current there. The airconditioner unit has a low pressure switch in the system somewhere in the pipe that monitors the amount of gas in the system and if the gas is not enough the switch will not allow current to flow through to the compressor, it is just to protect the compressor from siezing up if there is no lubricant in the system

1988 nissan sentra tail lights not working

More than likely it is the combination switch on the steering column. This is a common issue on the older vehicles.
