Fixed Illumination With the ignition switch in the START or RUN position, the delay accessory relay provides voltage to the non-dimmable switches. The delay accessory relay is controlled through the instrument cluster.

All doors are closed and it said a door is still open

It is probably due to a faulty "jab switch" (the button that the door pushes against when the door closes). Purchase one good jab switch and replace one switch at a time to determine which switch needs replacement. During your diagnosing, when everything works properly, leave that switch in place, it has been repaired. Hopefullly, this will help to FixYa problem!

Replaced the bulbs and checked fuse but the brakelights fail to work. Could it be a switch.

Yes, it could be the switch behind your brake pedal.

  1. Remove the driver's side instrument panel trim panel/sound insulator.
  2. Detach the switch electrical connector.
  3. Remove the switch from the retainer by grasping it, turning the switch 90° counterclockwise, and pulling it toward the rear of the car.

The brake light switch (3) is mounted on the brake pedal support (1) and secured with a retainer (2)

To install:
  1. Insert the brake light switch into the retainer until the switch body seats on the retainer.
  2. Pull the brake pedal upward against the internal pedal stop.
  3. Turn the switch 90° clockwise in order to lock it into position.

NOTE Proper switch adjustment is achieved when no clicks are heard as the pedal is pulled upward and when the brake lights do not stay on without brake application.

  1. Attach the switch electrical connector and test the switch for proper adjustment.
  2. Adjust the brake light switch, as follows:
    1. Detach the switch electrical connector.
    2. Remove the switch from the retainer by turning it counterclockwise 45°, and pulling it toward the rear of the car.
    3. Insert the switch into the retainer until the switch bottoms out against the brake pedal and the switch actuator button is fully depressed.
    4. Snap the switch into the retainer by turning it clockwise 45° until a click is heard.
  3. Attach the switch electrical connector.
  4. Install the hush panel/sound insulator.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Ignition switch replacment

The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.

NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.

The ignition switch is operated by the key switch. Courtesy of Ford Motor Company. To replace the switch:
  • Remove the ignition switch wiring harness.
  • Unbolt it from its position.
  • Bolt the new switch into position.
  • Attach the witing harness.

Its possible that this video can helped (for Explorer)...

Good luck.
