Start with a compression test. I suspect your # 5 cylinder has cracked rings.

SOURCE: how to adjust rocker shaft on discovery td5

There are adjustment screws on the rockets according to RAVE.
The procedure is as follows:
1) Rotate the engine clockwise until No 1 injector lobe is at full lift.
2) Rotate rocker adjusting screw clockwise until the injector plunger is felt to bottom out.
3) Rotate rocket adjusting screw anti-clockwise one complete turn to give plunger the required bump clearance and tighten rocker arm adjusting screw locknut to 16Nm. Ensure the screw does not turn as the locknut is tightened.
4) Carry out the procedure for the remaining 4 rocker arms.
5) After completion of rocker arm adjustment slowly rotate engine clockwise 2 complete turns by hand to ensure that no injectors are bottoming out on their plungers.

Permant loss of power after changing crank sensor

Due to the lack of info as to what model it is and what engine it has this could be a number of things, but working under the assumption that is ether a td5 or puma the most likely fault is oil creep in the wiring harness. my advice would be to use a can of brake disc cleaner as this leaves no residue and remove all contacts on the injectors and ecu, give them a good spraying over and refit carfully.

Hi my discovery td5 started to cough and splutter when overtaking a lorry,i was doing about 4000rpm at the time, can u help

Misfires can be caused by the Injector Loom being contaminated with oil. If you take the ECU out, look at IIRC the red plug and if it's got oil leaking through to the ECU there, then that may well be your problem. It's about £35 for the new Injector Loom, and you should be able to clean the other loom through with repeated cleaning.

Td5 seems to be miss firing or firing on four

Probably more likely to be oil in the injector loom. About £35 for the part and an hour or so to replace.
Easy way to check, get the ECU out from under the bonnet by the jack, unplug IIRC the red plug and see if there's oil oozing there. If there is, get some contact cleaner and clean that up, but odds are the upper loom has a failed o-ring. This can be replaced then cleaning the lower loom at the ecu a couple of times a week can clear the rest out negating the need for a engine loom replacement.

Td5 injector height

Fuel injectors on TD5 are adjustable.Turn the engine over while noting the camshaft position. There are marks behind the cam chain sprocket 1 - 5.With each line next to the number set in the middle of the cam box hole. Adjust the injector stop screw fully in (clockwise),turn the stop screw one full turn out 360 degrees and lock the nut there.Do this with all the injectors in turn with the injector coinciding with the number on the cam shaft.
