Hi. The crankshaft position sensor is located on the intake sector of the engine block, near the flywheel. This will be on the AAA engine build.

On the ABA build, The crankshaft position sensor is mounted on the side of the engine block, near the crank pulley.

PASSAT WONT START ALL THE TIME. NO CODES

sounds like a Crank Position sensor. It's hitting at random instead of in tune with where the crank is at any given time. So I say "Yep" to your question "Maybe a new crank sensor?" : )

Location of the crankshaft sensor on a 2002 Buick rendezvous

The 24X crank sensor is located behind the crank pulley on the front of the engine. The 7X crank sensor is located about in the middle of the block on the backside of the motor. The side closest to the firewall. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

2005 Chrysler Pacifica 3.5 V6, has a code that says bad crank sensor, got a new one, want to know the location of the crank sensor for that model

Codes don't tell you anything is bad

They are used to diagnose & component test
a sensor or other parts of a system

You only replace a part if it fails a test

If your not testing the system & it's components,
how would you know what does work & what doesn't?

Trying to locate the crankshaft position sensor for a 2001 volkwagen passat 4 cylinder 1.8 dohc with a turbo. we have removed the timing cover and have located the wiring harness, but we are having a hard...

The crank, or speed impulse sensor is held into the block with a single bolt, I believe it is a torx or allen head cap screw and it will be just adjacent to the oil filter. The cam sensor is behind the timing cover. The crank sensor (speed impulse) is a far more common failure

2002 vw passat- EPC light came on when starting car. Stayed on until car restarted. Is it OK to drive? Safe?

The EPC light means the car is running in "Limp Mode". I had the same thing happen to my car (2001.5 Passat GLS) and i chased the problem for three months.... I would drive and begin to get on the interstate only to have complete loss of power and inability to accelerate. Id pull over, turn off the car then crank it right back up and it was fine. But it came back again randomly. I would suggest pulling codes with a scanner. If you do not have one most local auto parts stores will scan them for free. Mine turned out to be a sensor that is right on top of the engine in the front.... If I'm not mistaken it's the engine speed sensor, also called crank sensor or impulse sensor. You may also want to do a throttle body cleaning.... That would be beneficial no matter what.use extreme care when doing any TB stuff, though, as it's very sensitive. I doubt you want to be forced to get a new one for ~650$. I'd also suggest getting the Bentley Manual for the car as its VERY handy! Http://tech.bentleypublishers.com/thread.jspa?threadID=35463 (there's a link at the bottom to get it.... I really suggest it, as this car is very high maintenance!!!!!!!)
