Http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/ here features your problem codes. 401 is an EGR or exhaust gas recirculation problem. saying exhaust gas is not getting back to the intake. this is almost a non issue. its there purely to help reduce emissions by your vehicle and a by product is actually more heat being shunted back to the motor and less power as bad gas gets mixed with good oxygen. the other is an oxygen sensor malfunction. this is concerning as the computer may be telling the engine to "Lean out" the fuel. pushing less fuel into half or all of the engines cylinders and when it burns it burns much hotter than a "rich" mixture. head to this link and start checking your engine for loose, cracked or damaged little black hoses called vacuum lines. http://www.obd-codes.com/p0171 that is likely why your engine cooked. the mechanic may have spilt oil onto the sensor too.

Jason,
-after you change the part you have to reset/clear the code
-this can be done by either:
(1) using the OBD2 code reader that Autozone used OR since option 2 (below) is very quick
(2) disconnecting the battery for about 30 seconds (this will delete
all codes/radio presets/etc) but it will also clear the 'check engine'
code
-this is what I do AFTER i write down my radio station presets :)
-hopefully the new EGR valve resolves your issue after you CLEAR the code
...but that code just means a an insufficient amount of Exhaust Gas
recirculation (pressure difference) used to keep the emissions in check
-if it comes back, then there are a few other fixes to try also
-let me know if you need further assistance
-please remember to rate me `fix-ya`if it works
thanks
SOURCE: check engine light on 1997 Honda accord EX
Hi
If the engine is running without any problems then The fault code which has flagged the checked engine light will either pertain to the upstream O2 sensor, a drop in catalytic efficiency, an EGR issue, or maybe even an EVAP issue.
A lot of EVAP issues can be resolved by simply ensuring that the fuel filler cap is on securely, otherwise a vacuum leak will be detected in the system and the check engine light will come on.
A drop in catalytic efficiency (P0420) is usually temporary and will stay away after a reset.
EGR issues can sometimes be rectified by removing the EGR valve and cleaning it, and the ports on the intake where it was sat, but there are occasions when it has to be renewed.
The O2 sensor issues are a wee bit different. There are a number of fault codes which relate to the O2 sensor, and which make the O2 sensor look faulty, when the O2 sensor is actually attempting to rectify a problem from elsewhere and isn't faulty at all. However, they could also be due to a fault with the O2 sensor. Basically, further checks should be made before condemning the O2 sensor should the fault code relate to the sensor.
Have a code read done and then have the codes reset and see what comes up.
Regards
Geordie

Hi,welcome to fix ya.
p0171 is for a lean fuel condition .A variety of things can cause this code the most common one is a bad o2 sensor but a plugged injector, fuel filter or dirty egr system can cause this as well.

Hiya,
Pull open the center console ash tray, depress the sides, giggle it out and you'll find a series of numbers ( I think on the bottom ) and there you will find your gold. The find digit number is it. If you entered too many wrong numbers, follow the manual on how to get more tries.
Also, this has to be the original radio in the car.
SOURCE: My check engine light and TCS light came on. Code
P0401: Isufficient Flow Detected in EGR system.
-clean the EGR port with the carburetor cleaner.
-clean the EGR passage inside the EGR valve with the caburetor cleaner.
Reset the light, if the light still coming back, then replace the EGR valve.
