ive changed air filter, spark plugs, wires, cleaned MAP sensor, checked pcv looked good, changed rear o2 sensor, wasnt gicing a reading....im thinking maybe injetors? or injector wiring? maybe clogged cat?
any help would be great....thanks
oh yea i have an INNOVA 1303 scan tool with live data and DTC freeze frame
I know this post is old, but right on the engine theres a sticker that says use multi-ground plugs only. I read a similar problem like yours and it seemed to turn out that the spark was arcing to ground over the ceramic on the plug. So maybe it could have something to do with the single ground plugs.
Replace the coil packs.
Your issue is NOT the converter, or you would have a P0420/P0430 code
Yes, you can switch the coil packs. If the misfire moves to another cylinder, you have the problem isolated..
The graciousness of a FixYa rating would be most appreciated. Thanks for allowing me to assist you, and Thanks for choosing FixYa.
Buy nothing until you are sure about the coil packs. The test is to move a suspected bad one to another location/cylinder...if the misfire moves with the pack, it is bad. The Igniter works on all cylinders. If it was bad, you would have a no-start condition.
I would check the compressions of all of the cylinders and compare them next, if the coils do not make it any better, and then I would start looking at injectors. I change a lot of coil packs, rare to change injectors.
Swap the coil assby complete.
Sorry, no experience with that reader; I have to buy & use Toyota's...Expensive, too...

A misfire or non-fire will skew the fuel trims.
No, the main grounds are not down near the skid plate.
Sparkplugs:
YES! It DOES matter!
The engine is designed for a specific plug. Put in what belongs in it. The second "J" is for the second spark to hit before the exhaust stroke.
I see this all of the time...people believe what they see on TV and they buy it. Toyotas run on a specific plug. Rare that they will run good on another brand. I have a box of "new" plugs that I removed, and replaced with the right plugs. Sometimes, the engines rub WORSE with a different plus, as opposed to the worn Denso that was in the engine initially...

can i switch #1 coil with # 3 coil pack and see if code follows...
i have access to used toyota parts can get all 3 coil packs for 150$ new they are like 70$...im on a very tight budget...is there a test i can do on the coils to check to see if they are working ok and igniter is ok?
i will try switching coil packs today...its nice having a reader handy...if its not the coils what should i check after that?
thanks for your fast response...should i move the whole coil and wire or just the coil from # 1 to #3?
is the Innova 1303 a decent code reader?

im curious why the low stft on b1? and what is sensor 1 & 2? o2 ?
im new to code reading...thanks again
i recently got an oil change at pep boys, this problem is probably a coencidence, it started about 4 days after the oil change..i know he had to take of the skid plate to get to oil filter...dont think grounds got knocked around...like i said probably just a coencidence but im not sure?
thats what i thought...just not sure i know theres a ground above spk plugs on 2,4,6 cylinders that you have to take off to get at plugs....i dindnt use denso plugs used ngk plat, they are only single prong does this matter?
im waiting for the nurse to come change my bandages then its off to change around the coil packs, and do another code test..thanks again..
i looked on the yota tech forum...it said either denso or ngk plat which i have...the misfire followed the plug and wire change...i will change back to the denso plugs after i isolate this misfire problem...could the ngk plat plugs be part of the prob? checking denso plug prices now...

today i changed back to original plug wires and switched coil pack 1 to 3....i cleared all codes drove to the store with scan tool hooked up...ran fine to store no codes... when i came out and started it, i noticed it was stumbling again, it tru only one code this time po302....i believe the wires i put in were bad or i mixed up cylinders..i think this because i have the original code i started with before changing wires....could it still be the coil pack as to it is showing a code for only one cylinder and the coil connects 2-5 cylinder? im at a lose at the moment and back at ground zero....any advice would be great...thanks
anything ed?
i have a miss fire on # 5 and have swapped around everything and its still miss firing on #5. i have compression and spark
