Dropped bolt into front timing cover, could it have made it to the bottom of the oil pan, that's what it sounded like. Can't fish it out with a magnet. Was changing the timing chain tensioners when it happened. I've been looking for a picture of the bottom area of the front timing chain cover to see if it's open all the way to the oil pan, can't find a good picture.

You will have to remove your engine. You still will not have enough room to remove the pan from you big block by just trying to raise it.

Is the bolt actually inside the motor or just inside the engine compartment? If it's just in the compartment and not anywhere near any moving parts that you can see then don't worry about it.

fished around with a camera, didn't see the bolt in any of the timing gear. Put the engine back together, started and it runs fine.
I'll still drain the oil, stick the fiber optic camera tube down the dip stick hole and look for the bolt some more.
