I would suggest an automatic transmission flush before I did anything else.

2004 Toyota RAV4 hesitant acceleration at low revs.

All the things you mention at the end would cause codes on a scan tool so it is unlikely to be those.

A high end $5 grand scan tool computer should diagnose the acceleration issue, but they can't diagnose bearing or gears that are worn.

You could try cleaning the Throttle Body and MAF.

Is it safe to drive if OD is not working

no, the engine will run at higher rpm's than normal and can cause damage. if trying to get it home...drive much slower than normal and have flashers on.

I have several questions: Number 1 the initial minutes of my premio (corona) D4 2-litre engine raves at above the 1500 rev per minute but eventually returns to less than 1000 after some minutes;...

George,
1) Yes It is normal for corona Engines to have that high rev when the engine is still cold. It automatically adjusts to the Normal Rev/min when the engine gets warm so don't worry about that.
2) The Buttons are use when you are running on road. PWR means Power meaning that you lock the car in gear Five while sprinting. MNL stands for manual transmission.
3) Econ tries to show you that you are using a higher gear like say 5, therefore your fuel consumption is now being economized and thus low consumption. Actually, its always good if you drive your car with that light on coz it saves on your fuel. It get on automatically.

Don't forget to vote my solution if it was of help to you.

Tachometer revs up in speed when car is not actually going that fast. car also shuts off when slowing down and the battery and oil lights come on. Car is a 1998 camry with 186000miles

If this is a manual, sounds like the clutch is worn and needs to be replaced. If this is an automatic it could be the torque convertor or various parts int he transmission showing wear.

2008 Toyota Highlander Sport AWD when starting off the engine seems to rev fairly high for very small vehicle movement. At idle engine revs around 1000RPM. Gas mileage is poor,17MPG for about 80% city, 20%...

yes it is normal many customers complain about how the newer cars are not as responsive from a stop basically you have to hit the gas then the car goes seems to rev high to people with not a lot of movement becausse of this its because the newer cars are throttle by wire when you hit the gas it sends a electrical signal to the throttle to go instead of a few yyears back they were you hit the gas and the cable attached to gas pedal pulls back throtttle much more responsive hope this helps
