Here is the definition for code 11.

P0011 NISSAN Description
Problem with the intake valve timing control solenoid valve.
This mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating angle of the intake valve.

The ECM receives signals such as crankshaft position, camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant temperature. Then, the ECM sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the intake valve timing control solenoid valve depending on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake valve to increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in high-speed range.

The intake valve timing control solenoid valve changes the oil amount and direction of flow through intake valve timing control unit or stops oil flow. The longer pulse width advances valve angle. The shorter pulse width retards valve angle. When ON and OFF pulse widths become equal, the solenoid valve stops oil pressure flow to fix the intake valve angle at the control position.
Could be a problem with the control valve, oil flow to the valve, or one of the cam or crank sensors.

2002 altima codes 1212 and 0011 please help

DTC P1212 - Mass Air Flow Circuit Intermittent Low
DTC P0011 - "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)

A P0011 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:

  • Incorrect camshaft timing
  • Wiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system
  • Continuous oil flow to VCT piston chamber
  • Failed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)

Possible Solutions

This DTC code is a result of a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related components, so there is no need for electrical diagnosis. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components using a scan tool.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

I have a 2002 nissan altima 2.5 and i just put in a rebuilt head in it like a week ago, but now the rpm's are low and when the car is in iddle it shakes a little. When i run the car it feal like a

It is definatly a timeing problem but 1st check you pluged all wireing back in especially cam sensor & VVT solinoid if fitted. You may just need to reset the code & see if prob remains. I had a honda engine light come on after haveing VVT solinoid out & just had to reset comp & it was fine. If all looks good there you will need to recheck the cam timeing you could be a tooth out. Look at this link. http://www.permoveo.ltd.uk/tabid/122/OBD-Error-Code/P0011/Diagnostics/Nissan/Default.aspx

TROUBLESHOOTING P0011
The pcm has determined that the voltage signal from camshaft "A" position sensor in bank 1 indicates inadequate perforemce or a timing over advanced condition. (Bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)

hopefully this helps a little

P0011 Intake Valve Timing Control

Identified as P0011

P0011 - "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)

What does that mean?
A code P0011 refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module, also called an ECM). That consists of a few different components but the P0011 DTC specifically refers to the camshaft (cam) timing. In this case, if the cam timing is above a set limit (over-advanced), the engine light will be illluminated and the code will be set. The "A" camshaft is either the intake, left, or front camshaft.

Potential Symptoms:
Most likely a P0011 DTC will result in one of the following: hard starting, poor idle, and/or stalling. There are potentially other symptoms as well. Of course, when trouble codes are set, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the check engine light) illuminates.

Causes:
A P0011 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
* Incorrect camshaft timing
* Wiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system
* Continuous oil flow to VCT piston chamber
* Failed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)

Possible Solutions:
This DTC code is a result of a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related components, so there is no need for electrical diagnosis. Refer to vehicle specific repair manual to perform component tests for the VCT unit. Notes: Dealer techs have advanced tools and the ability to follow detailed troubleshooting steps, including the ability to test components using a scan tool.

Other related DTCs: P0010 - P0011 - P0012 - P0020 - P0021 - P0022

Hope helps (remember rated this).
