I have A 1998 GMC Sierra pick-up. 2wd, 305 V-8, AT
The back lights stay on all the time now, I had to disconnect the battery to shut them off. How do I know which lights (brake or tail)are on? Can you test the switch? what do I look for?
First, check the brake light switch, and if the high level light is on, the brake light switch is the likely problem. Even if it isn't, the bulbs could be burnt out. Anyway, disconnect the wire harness from the brake light switch on the brake pedal. If the lights go out, replace the switch. To test the light switch, disconnect the wire harness from that (with the switch in the "off" position). Again, if the lights go out, this is the problem. More likely, it is the brake one. This happened on my Dodge twice.

i have the dame thing with my 99 GMC sanoma the break lights stay on after the truck is off they are in the bright setting like im breaking cant fix it my friend said it might be a turn signal problem? i dont know about that but thats my last choice. i have checked lights fuses and everything to thhe break sticking thinking thats why but no luck i need some help with this ASAP!
I have the same problem with my 88 c3500 and it is with the adjustment of the break light switch. it is out of adjustment and i cant get it adjusted
I adjust the switch by pivoting it on the break pedal arm and moving the adjustment lever on the top as it hangs on the arm. it goes out but cant get it adjusted to come on when the breaks are pushed.
