My hood release on a 93 Nissan Sentra is broken and doesn't lift up the hood so I can reach underneath to the latch and open it. I broke the cover off the pull but don't know what I'm looking for to have it lift up. I also broke the grill on the left side and not sure what I'm looking for or if I move the latch with my hand inside the grill. Please help!
I HAV 96 200SX SAME PROBLEM GUY PULLED ON IT WHILE ALLREADY POPPED & IT JUST MOVES IN & OUT WITHOUT POPPIN HOOD
we can't see damage blind , hyjacker to 2012
if hood is open replace the cable ,end to end
so the hood is not popped now or is popped the post is not clear on that key fact.
if hood locked that is more hard, one end not accessible.
a real tech knows what to do!
they cut the cable, strip it back , gain access to center wire
and pull it hard, to release the hood lock.
done./ now replace all bad parts there. tested hood up./first
if that fails (see, I have done this)
I remove all I must pull on front of car to get hands on to
the lock cable front end, and attack it just like I said.
or get hands on actual lock lever, at any angle possible front
below or fender inside skirts pulled.
seems you need skilled hands to do this and not cause more damage that is there.
the hood lock must be accessed or just the cable
the steel cable sheath can be unwrapped with pliers!
strong hands even 2 pliers to do the work.!@
to gain access to the center control wire, just like bicycle brakes have and motorcycles. and lawn mowers and and and
the car is old and only paper books sold then (not digital)
1996 service manual, buy them use off ebay
then read chapter BODY and front end disassembly.
read how in the real book .
only the real manuals (OEM) have full and complete, body coverage. (dismantle)
buy one/?
see the gray books that are real from NISSAN
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4...
1996 versions.
you do get what you pay for in books, and OEM is it.
nothing better.
the book is 1/3rd the cost of 1 hours labor
so is free, if you do that math, ROI
each time used you get paid DIY $$$
three things to fail here besides doing it wrong
1: handle under dash snapped off (user pliers to pull cables center end) and bingo it pops.(stage 1 pop)
2: cable busted at any point ,new cable is only cure.
3: lock under hood busted. most times not.

Inside the car where you broke the handle off the hood release you will have to look under the handle or behind the dash to find the cable that it was attached to. IF you find the cable you can grab it with a pair of pliers and pull it to release the hood. It works just like bicycle brakes if you know what i'm saying. Very simple. You shouldn't have any issues finding it. THanks.
The cable I believe your speaking of is so tight that it does nothing when pulling on it even with pliers. Today I was able to take my grill completely off and easily can press on the hood release switch (with spring) but it still doesn't open and I don't know why.
Hmmm. You may have to get someone to help and check out under the hood while you play with the cable. I am wondering if maybe the hood is already released, but jammed on the locking mechanism. If you feel comfortable doing it.......have someone sit on the hood while you try to release the lever cable. This will allow less tension on the spring mechanism. Let me know how that works. Further more, you can have someone push on the hood and maybe bounce a little not enough to damage your car, but just as a troubleshooting technique to try to release the locking mechanism.
Just to clarify, the person you have helping or if you you are alone should only apply their weight to the front of the hood over the locking mechanism. Don't sit in the center or you will cave your hood in and may cause damage.
Also the hood release switch that you are pressing on only allows the hood to unlock once the lever in the car has been unlocked. Basically its a failsafe when you are driving. If the locking mechanism fails you have the spring lever you are speaking of to catch the hood from flying up into your windshield.
Thanks for your help Alan. I didn't realize there are 2 mechanisms regarding the hood. The 1st one (where I pull on inside the car) which only lifts the hood up and the 2nd main one (which is now the problem) which is behind my horn, and other things hard to reach to move it. There are some bolts that I may be able to get undone to hopefully get to it and move it forward so I can release it....otherwise not sure what else to do. Thanks again.
read the free users guide as this is your first car
and never opened any car hood ever as all cars by law
have a double lock. for, sure.
the first lock is a real lock cable drive.
the 2nd is only a crude (cave mans simple) that is a lever hook shape and a built id spring.
we blindly push that lever an pooped hood now opens/
the users guide covers this fully, lost it?
as dad or grand dad for demo/
or next time at the oil changer shop watch them pop hoods
watch and learn

any car the users guide is free; google finds them all so learn to google.
hood up 2 steps (seen on most cars just like this) for 100 years.

SOURCE: Broken Hood Release
Hello There
In short no there isn't, however it's most likely your plastic release lever is broken and not the metal cable, you need to open the cover over the release lever, there will be a cable you can pull using a gripper and it will release the bonnet, you can easily replace the plastic llever and it's reletively cheap.
Hope this helps, please don't forget to rate me.
SOURCE: hood release latch is broken
find the cable that is supposed to attach to the latch, and grab it with a pair of pliers or the like and pull.
SOURCE: Hood latch won't release on 2002 Ford Taurus
do you mean undone from the cable? if so, see if you can reach the attachment point for the cable and pull in direction of the cable to release
SOURCE: The hood will not release to open. I released the
So I gather that the release inside the car has release the hood's primary catch, but the T handle is not release the secondary catch to allow the hood to fully open.
If this is the case, take some lithium grease or WD-40 (lithium grease is much better and lasts much longer) and spray it onto the catch assembly.
Try pulling on the T handle some more after a few minutes of the grease soaking in and see of that releases.
If that doesn't work, then take a long flat screw driver and press it against the catch gently hit the screw driver with a hammer (you should be trying to push the catch towards the driver's side of the car)
You may need someone to be pulling on the T handle as you hit the catch with a hammer. I actually had to do this with a jetta before....
SOURCE: 2001 Jetta tdi hood release broken how do i get it open
on the left side of the drivers side their is a panel with the hood release
Pull off the cover of the hood release and you will see a cable connected to the hood release. take some pliers and give it a good pull.
if you dont hear a click, have someone pull the hood up while you pull on the hood release cable. next their will be little space to take off the grille for easier acces.
take off the grille carefully by prying it off carefully on each side. push the grill up and pull it towards you going up then down.
Now all you have to do is stick a flathead screwdriver or philips. and on the bottom of the hood release on the hood stick the screwdriver under the release and push the screw driver down while pushing the hood up.
