Check engine light came on and Auto Zone diagnosed the car and it said evap canister and defective fuel cap and vent solenoid defective and vacuum leak at engine. I replaced the gas cap and the light did not go off. The car was wrecked about 2 months ago and the lower air box was taken out. I disconnected the positive lead on the battery today and the check engine light went off. The mechanic said that I will have to drive around for about three days before he will look at it. I allready got a ticket for overdue inspection and I really do not want another one.
Need to do a drive cycle that will reset system monitors . OBD2 system check , you may have reset the computer, you think . It may have a hidden problem that will keep monitors from running . To pass emission's some states allow 1 monitor to be in complete . General Motors Driving Cycle If you had a code reader it would tell you if all monitors completed or not.
It's best to take it to someone who knows for sure what needs to be done.Because some of these people on don't have a clue.I have worked on cars the past thirty years. For chevy, cadillac, pontiac, gmc.

YOU WILL HAVE TO DRIVE 100 MILES FOR COMPUTER IN CAR TO HAVE ENOUGH INFO FOR INSPECTION, I JUST PUT IN A NEW BATTERY AND WENT FOR INSPECTION, ONLY 20 MILES ON , WOULD NOT PASS, WENT BACK A WEEK LATER AND HAD TO PAY AGAIN!!! BUT PASSED

Take the car back to your Mechanic and have the mechanic reset your system. Some may advise you to disconnect the battery, and that will reset your computer. This may cause significant problems with your car's computer, radio, alarm. Take the car to the mechanic.

PO455 is a large evaporative fuel leak. A bad fuel cap is ONE of the things that COULD be the problem. Fuel system cleaning only lightened your wallet. Reading your post is confusing. Did all this start AFTER the Valvoline Wallet Flushing? If so , they left something loose or disconnected. I would find a qualified repair shop to fix the problem, and if it has anything to do with what Valvoline did, make them pay the bill.

I had the SAME problem...do you smell any fuel smells? Is your car getting less MPG and is does it have less excelleration? It is the Fuel Injector(s)...
Most likely...one or more has gone bad, I believe this is yet another common problem with the Saturn ION...hhhhmmmm I wonder why they went out of business...
SOURCE: saturn code p0442, evap system small leak, can't find leak
I would send the car in for a smoke test...So much easier to find the leak...
Testimonial: "found another definitation for a code 422. replaced rear o2,fixed"
Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow
or large leak)
What does that mean?
This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control
system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control
system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel
vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the
engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon
the fuel vapors into the engine.
Symptoms
You likely won't notice any drivability problems.
Causes
A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
Possible causes
Dirt and dust intrusion into the EVAP canister vent hose assembly, resulting in restricted air flow, may cause this condition.
