Auto scanner code 446 - 2004 Chevrolet Blazer

The first suggestion is, get a 2nd opinion.

You need to know what the codes me first. If you go to an auto parts store they will hook it up to a computer and tell you what the codes are.

P0446 has nothing to do with the canistor !
DTC P0446 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent System Performance
This DTC tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a restricted or blocked EVAP vent path. The control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve Open and the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve Closed. This allows vacuum to be applied to the EVAP system. Once a calibrated vacuum level has been reached, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve Closed and the EVAP canister vent solenoid valve Open. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor for a decrease in vacuum. If the vacuum does not decrease to near 0 inches H2O in a calibrated time, this DTC sets.

Code 446 is for an open valve in the EVAP system. The computer uses the valve to vent the fumes from the gas tank.

You can't check a gas cap by seeming. An emmisions staition will check it for you. You don't want to do that hair dryer warming. Flamable and rubber hardening is heat to gas vapors.

these are evaperative emmisions code 440 is a general evap malf 446 is a small leak code. sometimes these codes are set after fueling, if the fuel cap is not correctly installed. or if the fuel cap has been lost and replaced with one that does not seal well.
