None of my right-turn signals are functioning. When I pull the lever the cadence of the sound is much quicker, and a message on my dash says"bulb failure". I had my mechanic check it out, after checking the switches, fuses and bulbs, they speculated it was a computer module problem that would have to checked out by the dealership. I called the local dealer, and they were sceptical that it was a computer module issue, because they haven't seen a prevalence of the issue in this model year.

I had the same problem. It was a defective lamp socket on the driver's left side, Volvo Part Number 8662985. Costs me $11.24 to replace the lamp socket, which included the bulb. If you've already replaced the bulbs yourself, you will find replacing the socket pretty easy, just use a thin flathead screwdriver to delicately pry off the metal retainer clip which holds the lamp socket in place, as you'll need to reinstall the existing metal retainer clip once you've replaced the lamp socket. Two minute job.

this issue appears many times because the wrong wattage bulb was used. the system measures the amperage flow to the individual bulb. if it falls outside the factory range ,, the indicator light will come on. I had a 1990 volvo myself. had a terrible time keeping good tail lights in that ****** but ABSOLUTELY loved that car. loved it so much I bought another (1998) model. it just wasnt the same driving experience as the 90 model though.
hope this helps...

If there are no burn marks on the housing then use as much force by hand to turn the entire black knurled assembly counter clockwise, you may already be at the point you have to be. Now try wiggling it back forth and pulling straight back at the same time. I'm assuming you've removed the housing from the body. If not there is a small gray latch that just pushes back and the whole assy. comes out very easily. When replacing the bulb put a little dab of vaseline on the metal area of the bulb before inserting it.
