Check your ignition coils. I have an 04 maxima, and it shift very hard into reverse. Code p0174 is my problem. That’s the no. 1 cylinder being faulty (ignition coil no. 1). I’m changing my ignition coils in the next 2 days.

P0174 is bank 2 too lean. Almost always, cylinder 1 is on bank 1, so you need to provide accurate recommendations when trying to help someone. This is obviously not accurate.

SOURCE: Starter motor and ignition switch and O2 sensor and pipe 1997 Nissan Maxima

You need to remove all of the air intake and other things behind the battery. The start motor is held in with two bolts. You might need a breaker bar to break loose the one bold as I did. Once you remove all of the air intake equipment. This will help you gain access to the starter motor. You might not need to remove all the air intake equipment I know it made it alot easier for me to remove the starter and I took it to the auto store and had it tested.

SOURCE: how to change motor mounts on a 1996 nissan altima gxe

I would ask you why you want to change the mounts? They usually are not a problem unless the car was in a crash. Can you see that they are broken? If it is just engine shaking due to rough idle then the motor mounts will not solve this. You will need to find out what is causing the misfire to smooth it out.

SOURCE: my 2005 nissan maxima jerks and races. Is that my

I have encountered this problem before. Your transmission is probably the aisin warner 5550. These 5 speed automatic transmissions were used in some maximas from 2004 - 2006. The short answer is you will at least need a new & updated valve body. Because the valve bodies tend to have that problem, other internal transmission damage may result. I rebuilt and updated a valve body for a customer and the max ran fine after that. Even now months later, my customer's transmission is still running great and it has never jerked again. I already wrote a long post with pictures on enginegeeks.com. If you want to see it go here : http://www.enginegeeks.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3

It's not the motor mounts and a transmission flush won't do the trick. These transmissions **** HARD!

2005 Nissan Altima jerks on Drive or Reverse for a second when hot.

Check for loss engine motor mounts and transmission mount
Also check the air tube (TOP AND BOTTOM) for hairline crack.

A loss motor mount can cause excessive vibration and damage the air inlet tube.

When using the reverse ,it kicks, jerks when stepping on the pedal.

Make sure about these things, tranny fluid, motor mounts are correct and also check the torque converter clutch, a bad shift solenoid in the solenoid pack (in the valve body) may cause the reverse shifting problem.

Got a 1995 nissan maxima with 179,000 that hesitates or misses.

hello, also check plug wires, distributator, cap and rotor button, you can check plug wires,at knight time, crank engine, with hood up, walk around car, look at plug wires while motor is running, see if any sparks are coming from plug wires, also if it clunks, like you said, you may have broke motor mount, transmission mount, check for air lines leaking also
