I replaced the thermostat and it still is running hot, coolant comes out of over flow line when hot that is the only leak, i felt my radiator and the passenger half is hot but the driver side half is cold
Sounds like you have a clogged radiator, i would recommend trying to flush it out before replacing it.
Do you recommend a certain strategy
If this has the Northstar engine, these can get tricky sometimes with air pockets getting trapped in the system when refilling, but as far as flushing the radiator, i would recommend disconnecting both the upper and lower hoses as to not push any debris into the rest of the cooling system, and try flushing through the upper hose port with a garden hose, and then try flushing by the lower hose port as well until it comes out clean, if this does not work then the radiator may be too clogged to flush out and may need to be replaced. You may be able to find a flush kit at your local auto parts store that may assist in helping to connect the garden hose to the radiator so you get full water flow from the hose pressure
thanks I did a refill about a week and half ago and i believe it may be an air pocket because it is running hot
Thats a definite possibility, especially with those engines, the cooling system is so weird on those. Try bleeding out the system again to see if there may be an air pocket trapped in there, sometimes it helps to raise the front of the vehicle up so the air can escape the system easier.
will do thx

OK, check that the 2 fans are turning on when it gets to operating temperature. If not, replace the 3 or so relays that control the two speed fans on your car.If that doesn't solve the problem, then you may have to buy new fan motors and also have the harness replaced if necessary to make it cool reliably.
I had this problem on a 1997 Cadillac Deville Limousine that overheated over 157 deg. F and went into its limp mode for cooling the engine off by allowing 1/2 of the cylinders to circulate fresh air into the engine in case all antifreeze would leak out or the car would overheat.
Don't run the Northstar engine too long, more than 45 min. at a time in this limp mode.
Good luck on this repair of your Northstar Engine.

4.6 Northstar V8. It is located on the rear of engine (driver side) in front. It is 1n the the waterpump housing cover. Remove airbox and intake tube and bottom radiator hose. 2 bolts(believe 10mm) on thermo housing. These systems are a lil finiky about air pockets....so fill slowly and let run at idle until operating temp and let cool and chk level.....fill as needed and repeat if needed.

Sounds like a Blend door issue, but could be the controller switch, Test ALL modes of operation to see what works and what does not. That should narrow it down a bit. The Blend doors are flap/ doors that regulate air flow, newer vehicles are plastic - electric assemblies ...prone to failure. Any clicking or thumping noises during switching modes and on-off suggest a bad Blend door. Hope that helps...good luck

The thermostat in the northstar engine is located at the bottom radiator hose (unlike most conventional cooling systems), the hose connects into the housing where you will also find the water pump.
You will need to remove the air filter housing and air duct to gain easy access to the thermostat.
Remove the hose from the housing, then remove the two bolts on the flange, the thermostat can then be pulled out.
Take note of the orientation of the thermostat as you remove it.
The thermostat in the Northstar engine is a duel action device.
One end of the stem is the Thermostat(obviously) and at the other end is a spring loaded pressure valve(the thinner end).
Make sure the thermostat end is nearest the rubber hose and the pressure valve end is in towards the engine.
Don't forget the new gasket when you install your new stat, you may have to order this separately.
Overheating........
The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line(small hose). The purge line is designed to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank (not the cap) ,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.
If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.
The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side close to the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.
Also note that the cooling fans don't come on until the coolant temperature hits around 225 degrees.
During normal highway driving the fans will very rarely come on(if at all) due to constant air flow through the radiator. They will only usually come on in heavy traffic conditions on a hot day.
But......if you have the Air Con switched on, the fans will run all of the time.
