1994 Honda Prelude si starting problem

My 1994 Honda Prelude si is not wanting to start when I turn the key in the ignition. All of the dashboard lights will turn on, I hear 2 clicks, then nothing. Dead silence. The car has a brand new battery and alternator. I have checked the clutch switch and it seems to be working properly. There are no burnt fuses. I have performed the ignition switch test (turn the key to position II, engine light turns on for 2 seconds, then turns off) and it did exactly that. I have OHM tested the power wire to the starter and it reads 13volts. The battery cables are clean and tight. This problem began all of a sudden yesterday. A friend came to jump start my car and it would not start even with a jump. Just dead silence. Luckily, the car has a manual transmission and we are able to push start it by popping the clutch. It started right away and ran like a champ all the way home. Turned off the key and now I'm back to the same problem. Turn the key and dead silence. Please help!!!

Sorry bud you need a starter, relay contacts in the starter are very dirty or just plain worn out.

  • Anonymous Sep 09, 2012

Pulled the starter off today and had it bench tested. Starter is good. Got home and checked the voltage on the switch wire going to the starter and there is NO power going to the starter. Used a jump wire from the battery directly to the starter and it started right up as normal. This led me to check the starter cut off relay. Pulled it out; bought a replacement; put it in thinking that this was finally the answer. Turn the key and dead silence. I am showing voltage from the ignition relay also. Don't know what to do next. Any suggestions?

If everything is turning on, and there's power... check for 12V at the alternator. it may be out now.... or a connector came loose, or wire broke.

Try checking relays in the fuse box under the hood. If all checks out ok, check timing belt/chain.

1994 Honda Prelude si starting problems

Your starter motor is either not getting power or in need of replacement. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with your car.

Also check your battery connections for no corrosion there as well as by the starter motor. Low voltage circuits in a car are extremely vulnerable to poor contact issues.

87' Honda prelude si will start and then cut off. All the lights on the dash board comes on, then cut off.

sounds like the problem could be in the fuel pump first start out buy removing the back seet cushion and turn the key to the on position there is a fuel pump assess door under the back seat and with the key on you will be able to hear if the pump is staying on with the key on get back to me after you have preformed this step and well go from there

Can you put the motor and 5 seed transmission from a 1993 acura integra into a 1994 honda prelude s

No, your car is set up for hydraulic transmission linkage and the Integra is a cable clutch. The mounting would also be a nightmare. The Integra's front motor mount is way different than the Accord and Prelude. Wiring harness would be another nightmare. Just find an Si, they are pretty cheap now.

All electronic accessories work when key is in

test power at the starter's power wire. If there is voltage, replace starter. If there is no power, check fuses/relays, if those are fine, check ignition switch (there is a recall on this since 2002). Typical symtoms of ignition switch failure on these vehicles include: Some warning lights not lit when key is turned to ON (ABS, battery, check engine, oil light etc.), Intermitted hard start/No start, stalling while driving, intermitted guage failure. If it is an ignition switch failure, call your local honda dealer for possible free repair under the recall(have your VIN# at hand). hopefully this helps

How do I get a code from computer in 91 honda prelude

UNDER THE GLOVEBOX INSIDE THE PASSENGER KICKPLATE NEAR THE FLOOR IS A TWO WIRE CONNECTOR BEHIND THE PANEL. JUMP THIS CONNECTOR WITH A PAPER-CLIP AND TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH ON AND WATCH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COUNT THE FLASHES. ONE LONG FLASH AND THREE SHORT ONES INDICATES A CODE OF 13. IF THERE IS MORE THAN ONE CODE THEN IT WILL FOLLOW THE FIRST CODE. THIS WILL SOLVE YOUR TROUBLES I AM SURE. LET ME KNOW. GOOD LUCK. P.S. IF YOU WANT TO ERASE THE CODE(S) THEN DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL FOR 10 SECONDS. BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO RESET THE CLOCK AND PRESETS.

93 prelude starting problems

I had a similar problem on my 93 Prelude. Apparently the original ignition module has a high plastic content. This doesnt do well with heat obviously. I had the ignition replaced with an aftemarket part that did not use as much plastic in its pieces and it fixed the problem.
