My 99 vw jetta will not turn over

I had an issue with it starting yesterday. I got it jump started. This morning I took it in to get a new battery figuring the battery must be old because I have had the car for a couple years and I have never replaced the battery. I turned the car off and parked for about 10 minutes after having driven for about forty minutes, and the car turned over right away when I went to start it again. I then drove for another 30 minutes or so and had the car parked for three and a half hours. When I went outside to turn the car on, it would not start. Again, having it jumped worked. The next time I turned the car off though, I tried to start it back up right away to test and see if it would turn over...and NOTHING!! Just clicking and dashboard lights.

Check your battery cables for tightness, especially your ground cable. Now you have a new battery, so you have eliminated that as the source of the problem. Turn on your headlights, do they go out or very dim when attempting to start the car? If so, you have a poor electrical connection somewhere - loose cable, bad cable, possibly bad ignition switch.

How to find a shortage on a vw jetta 2002

If you live where it is cold, your battery may need to be replaced . They will discharge with the cold during the night. Try changing the battery or checking your curent one. Install a known good battery that you know is fully charged, start the car and then turn it off leaving it for the night. If it does not start in the morning then you know it is not the battery. More than likely the alternator or regulator.

It wont turn on,

The battery can read 12 or so in volts, but may not have the amps to run it, or the cca to start it, it also has to maintain a certian voltage to run the injectors and coils.

do a check on the battery, any parts store can do this.

sounds like something is shorting the system draning the battery, but it could be the battery itself

Clicking starter=car not starting

Regardless of the battery age, sounds to me as if you have a drain on the electrical system First thing to do is completely recharge battery. An initial quick inspection might show a light staying on, whether it be a door , reading, glove box, or trunk lights, among many other things. If nothing is obvious an electical reading of the system while removing and reinstalling fuses will show the circuit causing the drain, Hope this helps

2006 vw jettA 2.5....trouble starting

I had to take my car back to the dealership twice. First, they replaced the ignition switch. 3 days later, my car wouldn't start again. So I took it back and they called VW - VW said to replace the steering column module. I asked my dealer why they didn't replace the steering colum module first - they said that even if they had replaced that first, the old ignition switch would have shorted out the steering column module. Whatever.
$600 later my car has been fine for about 3 weeks now. If it happens again I will keep you posted.
Good luck!
