I checked R-134a - with clutch stopped the psi reads 50-55psi - when clutch on the compressor engages and the reading holds at 40-45psi. a/c runs for 30 seconds durations and shuts off starts running again and shuts off.

Hi,check if the compressor clutch is engaging,if not check the conection at the compressor if ok check, fuse ,or relay ,if those are fine and the commpressor is engaging, check freon presure ,may be too high or low, if this is the case ,correct the problem and disconect the negative cable from the battery for a minute to reprogram the sistem..C1

Try changing the lower temp sensor in the air duct on the drivers side. I bought one and never replaced it. before the part arrived I took the lower sensor out and taped it up and put it back under the dash... not in the air duct housing were it belongs. believe it or not it works so well I did not even see a need to change the thing.

To reset your AC compressor, you need to remove power for at least 15 minutes. After you reconnect, the compressor should turn on. If it does, immediately turn to high and try to add refrigerant. Best of luck.

sounds more like the low pressure switch try that first u dont have to drain system for that,,,if it doesnt work they are two refridgerent temp sensors, u have to drain system first but u need to replace both so u know u have both coverd and dont have to go back in to system
SOURCE: My car is leaking coolant.
my 2001 catera just had the same problem i had the crank sensor replaced car wont die so far no problems starting but it has a antifreeze leak in the bottom seal of the engine. I have heard this is due to the dexcool that the manufacture decided was better than reg antifreeze and the repair bill for the labor is crazy still havent changed the bottom seal yet
