Hi and welcome to FixYa,
In a manual 2001 Hyundai Accent, the clutch cable could be adjusted. The adjustment point is on the cable 'pad' where it enters the firewall in the engine compartment.
To adjust, the slack or free play must be decreased. This is done by turning the adjusting nut clockwise. Check back by pressing on the clutch pedal to your preference.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
SOURCE: Clutch shudder and loose gears
It sounds to me like the clutch is slipping or it was not properly adjusted. I would take it back and tell them to take it out for a drive around the block. If they still refuse to do anything about it, take it to another garage and get their opinion. Better yet, get a written estimate. Then take it back to the garage that put the clutch in and tell them either fix the problem for free or you are going to take it elsewhere to get it fixed and sue them in small claims court. I do know that when i replaced my clutch, you need to have about a 100 mile break in. But still, the gears should not be loose and it should shudder. If anything, a new clutch will grab hard with very little play untill it is broke in.

I too have a 2003 Ranger and am on my second clutch, master clyinder and slave cylinder at 90k miles. Assuming all parts are installed correctly I would check the slave cylinder next to the master in engine compartment--it is the small plastic resevoir. Don't bother trying to bleed as you are wasting your time. Remove rubber boot after removing cap and you will probably find a lack of fluid or dirt in bottom. It has a one way valve and once you **** in dirt and air it's all over. It comes primed with fluid from the factory--I belive the part is made in France. Also when you remove you will have to break plastic washer under dash which is worth about $.02, but Ford charges around $30--it connects linkage with master cylinder. Replace master and the washer and you will probably have clutch pedal and be able to engage gears.
