2000 Cadillac northstar oil in intake

Just replaced head gaskets for overheat. Also rod and main bearings and oil pump just because engine was out. Now burns 1qt oil every 300 to 400 miles. Removed plugs to determine which cylinder has problem. All even. Removed intake and valve covers. Found intake manifold full of oil. PCV valve and plugs were also new with rebuild. Engine was not sludged was always well maintained. I am a ase certified master tech and have just run out of ideas

SOURCE: Changed thermostat three times, new radiator and head gasket rep.

Your fans will come on at around 225 degrees,so your temp range is perfectly normal.

As for overheating,Check for coolant flow at the Purge line, this is a common problem on the Northstar.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank, this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.

OIL IN COOLANT RESERVOIR 00 CADILLAC DEVILLE

Are you sure its oil? If you bought it used someone probably added Bars Leak or some other cooling system sealer which can appear as oil. Cadillac Northstar engines are well known for cooling system problems, and that is usually the first step people take. If it is oil that could indicate an intake manifold leak or a head gasket leak, although it usually results in coolant in the oil, not the other way around.

What causes a northstar engine to overheat?

Northstars are notorious for having head gasket issues. I can not be sure without having the car in front of me, but I would suggest having them checked by a reputable shop. This is not an easy, or cheap job to have done.

2001 olds silhouette engine overheats

Time for Intake Gaskets and possibly head gaskets, very common problem with these, the intake gaskets go bad and the coolant actually burns in the cylinder and of course the cylinder pumps air into the coolant system because of intake gaskets being bad. :-(

What is the toqrque spechs and order for a Northstar 4.6 engin for both head and main & rod barngs. Does the main barnings have a order

If you have to pull a cylinder head on a 1993-1999 4.0L or 4.6L Northstar V8 to replace a gasket or do a valve job, do not reuse the old 11mm head bolts. Also, GM has revised the head bolt torque values and tightening procedure as follows:
  1. In sequence, torque all bolts to 30 ft.-lbs.
  2. In sequence, rotate all bolts an additional 70 degrees.
  3. In sequence, rotate all bolts an additional 60 degrees.
  4. In sequence, rotate all bolts another 60 degrees.
  5. Torque the front three M6 head bolts to 106 in.-lbs.

I have on oil psi put in a new oil psi sensor and new oil pump and still when you rev the motor you get 18 to 20 psi what could it be

Hello, This information is from the 1995 cadillac 4.6 Northstar service manual: oil pressure specifications engine at normal operating temp at idle 5 psi at 2000 rpm 35 psi Based on experience you would be better off putting another engine in your car. You can not turn the crankshaft on a Northstar engine. It sounds like the main and connecting rod bearings are worn beyond specs and also the cam bearings. You would spend more on parts compared to cost of another engine. That is my recommendation.

I have a 99 deville w/ 32valve north star engine and i have problems with it over heating i changed the water pump the radiator and thermostat i have no leaks but it still wont stopover heating

It is probably a head gasket issue if you have replaced the thermo and the pump and it still overheats. You probably can drive it 15 minutes or so and then the gauge starts soaring towards overheat shortly there after. Under completely normal driving conditions. Northstar engine's actually don't overheat not from bad head gaskets (they aren't the defect issue) but the inferior bolts holding the heads to the block. The bolts have been found to be pulling out of the Northstar's soft aluminum block(this is the actual problem but it's blamed on the gaskets). Causing spaces between the block, gaskets and the head that allows hot exhaust air to seep into the coolant flow chambers. This why your have coolant bubbling out of the top of the overflow valve under the hood after only short drives. Under normal operation the engine is literally boiling it's own water supply. The head bolt issue is a design flaw by GM and one that leads to a great number of Northstar engines being crippled at well under 100K miles of driving. Only remedy is to have both heads pulled off the engine, the head bolt replaced with new gasket and you're all set. Bad new very labor intensive whcih = a several thousand dollar repair. I had it happen to my 1998 Concourse Deville. I feel your pain.

Problem with overheating on 1996 Cadillac Deville with Northstar engine. The information screen read "engine overheating", "idle engine" and "change oil" all within one minute. Are these issues related...

The oil life resets to zero after the engine overheats. Check for external leaks first, make sure the water pump belt is still there and turning. The most likely cause if the car has over 70,000 miles is head gaskets.

Over heating/ loss of coolent

If you are not loosing coolant on the ground. You may have a problem of a bad intake manifold gasket or worst a bad head gasket. The two things to look at are coolant in your oil, manifold gasket. Coolant out the exhaust, head gasket.
