Transmision oil for Audi A4 (1.8, 1.8T, 1.9 TDI): Manual gearbox (5 speed): - Capacity = 2,25 liters - Specification: Gear oil SAE 75 W 90 (synthetic oil) Part number G 052 145 S2 (1 liter) - To check oil level, unscrew oil filler plug placed on the left side of the gearbox in front and near of transmission axle, using an Allen 17 mm key. - Check oil level with locally manufactured tool, e.g. a piece of angled wire. - Specification: oil level 7 mm below bottom edge of oil filler hole. - Install oil filler plug, tightening torque = 25 Nm.
The easiest way to do it would be loosen the transmission oil pan bolts on one side of the pan and work your way around each side of the pan working from one corner. As you work your way around fluid will start to leak from the initial corner. Let the fluid leak out until it is down to the level of the pan. Hold the pan up and finish removing the remaining bolts and then dump remaining fluid still in the pan. Change the fluid filter while you have the pan off and clean the pan and gasket surface and re-install the pan using a new gasket. Then fill with clean fluid and you are good to go.
2 plugs, fill and oil level. Remove the red plug top side trans, remove the lower plug. fill with correct fluid per manual until the fluid just starts coming out of the lower plug hole. replace plugs, its full. Do this on level ground too.
drop the transmission oil pan and drain it and replace the filter... If you have over 100,000 miles and have never had a transmission flush before, don't do one now. just do a drain and fill. if that doesn't help, you might need a rebuild.
How to check & change oil in automatic transmission
At the bottom of the automatic gearbox (tiptronic) you will find 2 threaded plugs on below surface. First (in front of the car) is for emptying, and second is for filling up. Tightening torque is 24 Nm.
Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) checking: 1. Requirements for check: 1.1. Vehicle standing on level surface. 1.2. Transmission must not be in fail-safe mode. 1.3. Shift lever in "P" position, parking brake applied. 1.4. Engine idling. 1.5. Air Conditioner and heater OFF. 1.6. ATF temperature must not exceed 104 Fahrenheit degree (40 Celsius degree) at start of test. 1.7. Only ATF with designation ESSO LT 71 141 may be used. Do not use any lubricant additives. 1.8. Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF - part number: G 052 162 A2 (1 liter wrapping) 1.9. An ATF level check when transmission oil temperature is too low results in overfilling, when too high results in underfilling. 2. CAUTION: Too much or too little ATF will affect the operation of the transmission. The ATF level must be checked at regular intervals. 3. The oil level is correct if a slight amount of oil runs out when ATF temperature is between 86 Fahrenheit degree (30 Celsius degree) and 113 F deg (45 C deg) (caused by increase of oil level when heated). For warmer climates, 122 F deg (50 C deg). 4. Hang filled ATF reservoir VAG 1924 as high as possible. 5. Shift lever in "P" position, engine running at idle. 6. Place oil drip pan under transmission oil pan. 7. Remove ATF filler plug (at the bottom of the automatic gearbox you will find 2 threaded plugs on below surface. First (in front of the car) is for emptying, and second is for filling up. 8. With ATF temperature between 86 Fahrenheit degree (30 Celsius degree) and 113 F deg (45 C deg), for warmer climates, 122 F deg (50 C deg), a slight amount of oil will flow from filler hole when ATF level is correct. 9. If necessary drain or top off ATF to attain correct oil level. Top ATF with filler hook from VAG 1924 ATF reservoir. Insert VAG 1924 (tool) ATF reservoir filler hook into filler hole and top off until a slight amount of oil flows from filler hole. NOTE: Fit filler hook into one of the oil deflector cap slots placed on the filler opening. CAUTION: Do not press filler hook upward or oil deflector cap can be pushed off. 10. Reinstall ATF filler plug. Tightening torque is 24 Nm.

Have you checked the level of your transmision oil? It sounds like it is low. If it is low obviously fill it to the full line. If it is full it sounds like your pump or clutch could be going bad and not building enough pressure. If that is the case you may need a trans rebuild. One thing I always try first is draining the trans oil. You do have a drain plug on this vehicle. Buy One bottle of lucas transmision oil additive and two quarts of trans oil. Fill until level is full hopefully this helps you out.
Check transmision oil level, Place car in park, hand break, open motor compartment and check transmision oil level with motor on idle. Good level?: transmision is bad, repare or replace the whole unit. bad level: complete and check for leakeges.
Don't listen to the other guy, I own a 1990 1.8L mazda protege with a manual transmission. Yes it will make it easier to hoist it up. I am not going into extreme detail so as long as you know a little about cars this will be a great help. on the transmission locate the drain plug, it will be on the bottom of the transmission. don't loosen it yet you want to make sure you can fill the transmission before you drain it. there is no fill plug, you have to fill the transmission through the hole the speedometre cable is attached to the transmission. the speedometre cable is straight up and down/vertical, it should be above the passenger side cv shaft coming out of the transmission. remove the small bolt holding it in place and then pull it straight up and out of the transmission. now drain the transmission. put the drain plug back in and start filling, make sure not to overfill you are not supposed to fill it right full. Make sure to check the fluid level as you fill, the transmission is at the right level when the gear oil is just at the top of the speedometre gear that is on the end of the cable that is inserted into the transmission. I believe these transmissions take 75w 90. Hope this helped you, and maybe future people who view this looking for help.
