Starter on Sunfire won't crank

I have a 97 sunfire, and was trying to start the thing when it was about minus 30 degrees celceus outside, the car was cranking but did not start. I went to try it the next day and the starter would not even crank, so I thought I fried my starter so I replaced it, and was still getting the same problem, the starter won't crank. I tested the starter with jumper cable and the engine started for 2 seconds then shut down. I don't know where or what a fuseable link is and can't find it. Also the Theft lock light is on solid, so I don't know if this is caused from it barely starting in the cold weather. How can I tell if this is the problem. How can I tell if it is my ignition switch or fuseable link, or ignition coil.
Any help would be great,
Thanks, Russ

Does anyone know where the fuseible link is?

O.K, I jump started the starter and had someone inside the car pushing on the gas padal, the car started and ran, when I turned the car off after 5 min, the same problem happened. The starter would not crank over. If my theft lock was activated the car should not rn when I jumped the starter right. I have no clue now.

I am taking the car in to have the ignition switch replaced, is there also another one for the starter? I have not took it in for any recalls yet.

if the theft light is on then the kill switch probably needs to be reset.

I have a 2000 pontiac sunfire. The problem like mostof other sunfires, when it gets cold below 30 degrees, it takes longer to start up. I find myself having to keep starting the car every hour or hour 1/2...

You may be running a weight of oil that isn't correct for your temperature extremes. Or the starter bendix or starter itself is getting weak. A Chiltons/Haynes repair manual troubleshooting section should lead you in the right direction.

My 97 sunfire will crank and it starts its just for a split second and then dies

Hi

Most likely cause is the MAF sensor or the air mass sensor, same thing. also look for any holes in air pipes, too much air will choke the engine.

Hope this helps. If not get back to me

Changed starter in 96 sunfire now, cranks but will

Try turning the key to the on position three times, then leave it on the third time and wait about fifteen minutes for the security light to stop flashing. then turn the key off and try to start it.

Where is the crank shaft positioning sensor located on a 2002 sunfire with a 2.2 ecotec

the crank position sensor is located to the back of the engine to the left of the oil filter, it is right next to the oil filter on the back side of the engine. hope this helps. Please rate my fix as i strive to be the best. need more help, get back to me Thanks Ray

Sunfire gt 97 2.4L. car won't start, small

sounds like a starter solenoid went bad which it is easier to replace the whole starter assembly then just the solenoid and you can get one with a LLT Limited Life Time warranty.

Starter will not crank

Sounds like you got a little "Bad" Fuel in there. Sometimes fuel from Cheaper Stations can get Condensation in the Tanks witch Transfers to your Gas Tank and will Clog up the Fuel System. Try to get to a Good Station and Fill up Then get a Can of "B12 Chemtool" and pour it in the Gas Tank. You can get it at Wal-Mart or any Auto Parts Store. Let Me Know!

02 pontiac sunfire won't crank at random times

Hi, I had the same problem with my girlfriend's 97' sunfire, it wouldn't start so I jumped the starter terminals which I think screwed it up even more (causing the theftlock light to come on). It turns out this is a common problem that can be solved by hooking up a GM Tech2 scanner, going under "body" codes, and following the instructions for bypassing the PASS LOCK SOLENOID. Hope you find this helpful, Byron
