My low coolant light warning comes on when I start the car in cold weather, and drive off. But if I let the car warmup for about 5 minutes, the light doesn't come on.
Do I and Can I add coolant? Do I need to get a flush? Or Can I avoid getting a flush, only drive about 20 miles a day?
It sounds like it is low on coolant. Coolant expands when it warms up so if it is just low enough to trip the switch when it is cold it will shut the light off when it warms up. You should be ok to just top it off but be sure that what you put in is compatible with what is in it. There must also be a leak somewhere in the system for you to have lost some to begin with. Depending on how many miles you have on the car it wouldn't hurt to have the cooling system flushed if it's never been done before. If you do get it flushed take it to the dealer to have it done. Explain to them the low coolant and have them check the system for leaks at the same time. Hope this helps
Stay away from Dexcool. GM just lost a several million dollar class action lawsuit because of Dexcool eating up intake manifold gaskets. I know in the past Audi/VW had their own coolant that you had to use. Contact your dealer service department and use what they say to use or better yet take it in and have them leak test the system and top it up, you are covered that way if something gets screwed up. Hope this helps you.

yeah I'm trying to figure ou which coolant to uset... I've read dexcool's 50/50 mixture is compatable...But everyone seems to suggest a flush before the use... but I also hear that I should only uses audi's mixture...so I'm not sure which will be safe to use, just to top off...
I have about 72k on the car... and I have no idea if it's been flushed before.. if It's in scheduled maintenance it's been done.. I only use the dealer, and I tend to keep up with the scheduled maintenance... but nowadays, it's difficult for me to make it to the dealer in the near term....
