Both headlights out... fuse fixes it temporarily

So, my husband's subaru impreza rs is having headlight issues (so he's racing against the sunset)... replacing the fuse temporarily fixes the problem, but soon after both headlights go out again. Any ideas what he should be looking at? Otherwise, he'll have to constantly carry a box of extra fuses in his car...

he has had at least one headlight out (intermittently) for several days... so he has replaced both bulbs & the fuse.... the other day he started his car in the evening & no headlights. again, replacing the fuse fixes it temporarily, but shortly after the fuse is replaced, both headlights go out again.

So I'm assuming that the fuse actually is blowing. And if the headlights are still working after replacing the fuse, then you know that the headlights are probably good. I'd first try to cause the fuse to blow by wiggling the wires to the head lights and the fuse box with the lights on. check the connectors for frayed wires. and maybe bypass the blown fuse by wiring in a comparable circuit breaker until you find the problem.

Are you absolutely positive you are installing the correct amp fuse ?
I think headlights on Subaru's run thru a relay, which could be bad.
Here's a how-to that may help.

SOURCE: Low beam headlight is out, doesn't look like a fuse

Check the Headlight Switch. If your headlights come on automatically check the headlight sensor and its associated relay.

SOURCE: Change Headlight on a 2005 Subaru Impreza

IF the bulb is the only part you need to replace, Where the wires for the bulb are there is a large plastic ring that just 1/4 turns to release the bulb. Do not touch the bulb with your fingers. Just unplug the bulb and replace with new one then reinstall and 1/4 turn to seat it again. There are no screws to remove for the bulb replacement. Sometimes the local auto stores will do it for you. Advance Auto here will put them in for you. Good luck and have a great day.

SOURCE: Subaru Impreza gas cap door won't open

If there is one - In trunk - directly behind the gas filler door - behind trunkliner (carpet)
The cable should not have any problems... use a partner to hold the door release and try and pry it open with your fingers.
The spring popper may be bad.
Try this if you dont have an assistant :D

I had this problem with my STI -- easy to fix by bending the little metal on the inside of the fuel door that provides the spring action to open the door. 5 second fix

SOURCE: subaru impreza automatic transmission won t shift

Try replacing the transmission filter and the trannie fluid. Mine would only go in reverse, and now it drives pretty well. This year has a screw on filter. Hope this helps

Headlights won't turn on/ 2006 impreza sport/ parking lights are on but not the headlights

First of all check the headlight fuse. If its alright, check that there's power getting to the headlights. If there is check both the bulbs, because they're probally both blown. But if there's no power check if there is power getting to the headlight relay if so test the relay, it may need to be replaced. If not the problem will be with the switch in the dash or a problem with the wiring.

Adjustment of headlights...how to

There is an adjustment screw for the headlight located on the headlight housing. You should just have to turn it clockwise (I believe it requires an allen wrench) and that will raise the light beam higher. If you need further assistance let me know.
Thanks and enjoy,

2007 subaru outback headlight problem

Each head lamp also has it's own relay, you can rule the relay out by swapping the left head light relay with the right head light relay & see if the problem moves to the other side...The relays are also in the same under hood fuse box.
