Kia optima engine ticking

Was going down interstate when car started to rattle. pulled over and checked oil and it was very low. added 2 quarts but still making a really loud ticking/knocking sound. Gets louder when accelerating. checked top of head and didn't see any issues. other than oil being low what other issue could it be?

Sounds like lower end bearing damage (connecting rod) when oil level drops at interstate speed a connecting rod bearing will seize very quickly thus causing the bearing to spin in the rod and enlarge clearance . that is the knocking sound you here .

SOURCE: oil consumption, rattle, engine noise

Check under the hood and inspect the valve cover gasket. If it's bad it would explain why you don't see any leaks on the ground because it's probably burning off on the manifold. This ticking you're hearing is a lack of lubrication to the rocker arms. Apart from the valve cover gasket, you should get under the car and inspect the oil pan and oil filter for seepage. Best of luck on your problem.

SOURCE: Loud Ticking sound 2004 F150

Check the Alternator / Powersteering belts .
One of them will be damaged and loose.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Loud ticking/knocking/rattling sound when I start/accelerate

hi is it miss-firing as it sounds like a knocking noise can be anything but if you can feel it on the accelerater pedal then the noise sounds like its on the inlet valve side which would transfere the noise up the throttle body where the accelerater is located it could be something as simple as a tappet come loose to a burned valve you need to have a look do a compression test and take the rocker cover off see if theres anything come loose yates210456

SOURCE: my 93 grand am seddenly

knocking in an engine is never a good thing. I'd check three things: engine bearings, valve lifters and timing chain, all of which can make noise. First thing though, is to put a mechanical gauge in place of the sending unit and check actual engine oil pressure. this will give you a good idea what is going on. low readings can be bearings, normal readings can be the other two items. I could give you a definite idea by listening, but I really can't hear it from here.!(one of the frustrating drawbacks to doing this online) An experienced tech can listen and tell you pretty much what's going on.

My problem is when driving, the engine rattles bad especially when accelerating, I had noticed my oil level looked empty

Most engines take at least 5 quarts of oil. Have you check the dip stick to see how much is in there?

My 2004 Kia Optima is using tons of oil! About 2 quarts a week. A mechanic did a synthetic oil change and in two months since, I have added 11 quarts of oil!! There is no leak and the engine is clean? How...

At this age of car(assuming average mileage)you should not be using synthetic low viscosity oil.
a semi synthetic 10/40 is factory recommended for cars over 60k.(far east/china handbook) i know that many mechs will tell you otherwise but it will NOT cause ANY damage.as these cars are on sale in china and use 20/50 as standard.(they dont sell any other type for kia/hyundai).this WILL slow down the oil bypassing the rings and burning.supercars that are HANDBUILT/plasma coated bores, obviously NEED super oils but the average car?........

Checking oil and transmission levels

you will check the oil with then engine off. Pull the oil dipstick (yellow one) and wipe clean. Reinsert the dipstick and pull out. The oil level should be in the hash marks. If the level is below the hash marks than start by adding one quart and recheck. One quart will change the oil level from the bottom of the hash marks to the top of the hash marks.

The transmission fluid needs to be checked with the engine running. Preferably warmed up to operating temperature. With your foot on the brake engage the transmission through all the gears and then back into park. With the engine still running remove the transmission dipstick (red one) and wipe clean. Reinsert the dipstick and pull out. The fluid level should be in btween the hot marks. If it is low start by adding 1/2 quart at a time through the transmission dipstick tube. You will need a funnel small enough to fit in the tube to do this. It will take a while for the fluid to drain out of the tube. Recheck check the fluid level and continue adding in 1/2 quart increments until the level is in between the hot marks.

I have a 2004 kia sorento. while driving down the interstate at 75mph, i hear a ticking noise. all my gauges read normal. a minute later the ticking gets louder and the check engine light comes on. i...

Does the car have a normal oil level on the dipstick? The behavior is consistent with a broken timing belt except for the part about the temperature gauge going to the top which would indicate overheating or a faulty gauge.

97 buick century, oil light started flashing, check engine light flashing car shut down on the interstate. what can i do?

Go check your oil first. If it is low or absent then you need to go get some! The car needs 2-3 quarts to get back into range at the least. Then try starting the engine. If the car starts and the light goes out you can drive to a mechanic and have the check engine code read to see what else is wrong. If the oil light stays on....call for a tow truck! You risk serious and complete engine damage if you drive any further...if you havent already!

Be careful and good luck!
