96' Jeep Cherokee won't start?

Crank position sensor or knock sensor may be faulty.

did you replace the ECu with a used one or new. if it a used one did you match it to the old.why di you change the ECU.? when you turn the key in the start position does the fuel pump turn on? does it crank? do you know if there is spark if you pull one spark plug wire?

Plenty of causes. Plugs, valves. rings, numerous electronic/electrical faults. Diagnose vehicle and eliminate problems one by one.

Every time that has happened to me it was the crank shaft sensor. I have owned 3 jeep Grand cherokee 6cyl and all have had the same thing happen.

sometimes the neutral safety switch goes out and thus it doesn't start... I had that go out in my 96 jeep cherokee sport 4x4... changed the fuel pump out and then found out... I had it changed so I don't know how to do that part.... anyway hope that helps

Turnover and cranks are the same thing....you mean it will not fire up?

2001 jeep Cherokee you turn the switch to start but it will not fire turn the switch off then back on and it will start

Check the Jeep Grand Cherokee 1993-1998 - Firing Order or read your Service Manual for other details.

You need to put the harmonic balance for the 96 jeep on this motor,then put the crankshaft sensor on for the 96 jeep on the vehicle,this should fix you up.The crankshaft sensor and the harmonic balance have to go together.If I can be further help,let me know.>>[email protected]

the switch may be bad to lights. the switch is not cutting voltage when it is turned off. good luck Carl,
