My Volvo C70(2005) is a poor starter. The engine turns and then cut off, any idea why this might be? Thanks

Could it be the battery or something else. When it gets going it's fine. Can a garage tell me fior sure if it's the batery or something else. Many thanks

Have the battery load tested by a shop, i suspect you have a low voltage problem.

It sounds like linkage to me as well - jack car block to prevent fall and block tire - do on flat ground and track cable under car. I think you should start under hood where linkage joins transmission. I seem to recall a plate there to hold at this end . not that it is a yoke type movement in transmission. this must be always lubricated. Did you ever have car jump out of gear? was it ever stiff to shift and has car been sitting?

I believe this a belt driven engine right? Check the timing belt.

I have a problem starting my Volvo 850 when i turn the key it turns the engine but it doesn't catch. I thought it might be the starter, I checked it (its good)it will start when I bump start the car,

check the earthing points from the battery also the engine earth strip. a bad earth can cause this so give them a good clean. can also be a warn battery. so have this tested. but cleaning the earths is a very good idea.

93 polaris 350l new starter,bendix,battery/w 225CCA.Good test on cdi,exciter,pulse coil.Something causing starter to drag,not crank fast enough.Pull starts fine,jump starts fine.

Insufficient voltage/current supply to the starter - poor supply to the starter and/or poor ground to the engine or starter, battery in a low state of charge or poor condition, or perhaps the starter motor is in poor condition.

In these matters guessing can be expensive and a voltmeter is king! I suggest you begin by checking the battery state of charge...

2000 holden barina wont start all dash lights are on immobiliser cuts out and it ticks in the left hand side of the passenger floor? any ideas?

Hi sherry It sounds as though you might have a flat or faulty battery. Battery has enough power to function the electrics on the car but when under load I.e. cranking engine it fails, this would create a clicking noise from left footwell as that is where the starter position is. There is a chance that one of the battery terminals are loose or maybe badly corroded making a poor contact. Possibly a poor contact connection at starter motor or earth contact at chassis or engine. Good luck

My300zx won't start when warm any ideas

If the "won't start" is starter won't crank the engine, could be the neutral start switch is opening up due to heat soak so it doesn't recognize the transmission is in Park or Neutral. Had this happen on two different vehicles. If you hear a click but no crank, it's not the switch. Check for weak battery, poor connections between battery and starter. Heat is affecting something in the system, could even be the starter motor itself.

Won't start

Check battery voltage, battery connector cleanliness, and correct any problems such as dirty connections.

Check the amperage draw of the starter. 75 to 110 A should be plenty for a rapidly spinning starter. If it doesn't spin rapidly with this amount of draw on the thick cables coming off of the battery, then there is something wrong with the starter.

If there is no or little amperage draw, and the starter doesn't turn the engine over, then there is still something wrong with the starter, more specifically the solenoid which sits on the starter.

Good luck on this repair.

93 buick lesabre 3.8 liter starter replaced, new one just clicks

You still have a poor connection between the battery and the starter. Or a defective battery. (the headlights, if turned on will nearly go out when the key is turned to start)

1991 volvo electrical problem

When did you change the timing belt last? Have you checked to be sure the cable from battery plus terminal is secure and tight as it runs to the starter? I would check the battery cables - if the starting current is too high and the cable is corroded or loose, the starter solenoid and starter motor might not be getting any current. I run a heavy duty battery jumper cable from the positive battery terminal direct to the positive starter terminal. If the starter turns, the problem is in the electrical connection in between. Another idea - there are fusible links under the hood designed to blow when overloaded. One of these might be out.
