When cold, my 87 camry puts out 60-65 psi oil pressure. After it heats up, this pressure drops to 15psi and the oil light comes on. There is only about 70,000 miles on a rebuild with a new oil pump. C

When I leave for work in the morning, oil light stays off for 7 to 8 miles then comes on while in a no throttle situation. If idle is increased, light will dim and go out.

If the sending unit is working correctly, I would say the oil pump or engine is failing.
You can replace the sending unit or have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge to verify.
Its also possible the engine oil is being diluted by gasoline or other liquids.

Thanks Stephen. I finally found the oil pressure specs for my engine. this engine idles with 4-6psi when warm. I bought a mechanical gauge and a new sender. when hot I was getting 15psi I installed the new sending unit and road tested with no problems. I guess I was overthinking the problem. Again thanks.

SOURCE: trying to remove the fuel pump on 87 camry

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank. The fuel tank is in the rear of the car. Yes you have to drop the tank but this is simple and straight forward. First disconnect the neg bat cable. 2 locate the drain plug on the bottom of the tank, be sure that you have enough empty gas cans to hold the fuel.Get a freind and 2 drain pans that will slide under the tank.3 unscrew the plug and drain useing the pans alternately, heres where your pal comes in.Slide the full pan to your pal to empty while you fill the next. When done you can start with the nuts and bolts of the thing. You dont have to remove the tail pipe but it makes it easier and
unless your car has spent its life in a rust belt and all the fasteners are corroded faster. The hardest part is probibly going to be the fuel filler tube and acciated lines.before going any further remove the rear seat bottom cushin.Under it you will find a screwed down panel.Take the panel off and diconnect the elect connectors.
you will find two straps holdin the tank in place. Find the bolts and remove them. the tank should now come out. In the top center is the pump. Use a brass drift punch remove the retaining ring and lift out the pump. Reassymble in reverse order. 2 things to concider, if you raise the car make sure to use jack stands. I also found that dialectric grease eases the installation of rubber hoses .

Clean the IAC. Disconnect throttle body air hose and you will see a hole on the bottom of the throttle body just before the butterfly valve. Spray throttle body cleaner down the IAC hole and then let it soak about 1/2 hour. Reconnect hose and run engine about a minute and then repeat this process 2 or more times. Toyota engines from 1997-2005 commonly have the IAC get cruded up with carbon as early as 35,000 miles. This is a sImple and cheap repair that many repair shops don't want you to know.

SOURCE: 2008 Camry 4cyl tire pressure warning light on!!!!!!!!

Hello.

Do you have a full-size spare tire? If so, it too is checked via the Tire Pressure Warning System. Perhaps it is low, this is quite commonly omitted when setting tire pressures. If you have a temporary spare tire, it is not checked. If you have no full-size spare, one of the TWPS sensors may have been damaged by your tire changer. This can happen very easily, if the changer is not careful whilst dis-mounting the tires. A Toyota dealership has a special service tool that will check each of the sensors for output, while on the car. If a sensor is found to be bad, the tester will find it.

Well it could be the sending unit for the gauge.
But odds are the oil pump or engine bearings are worn out.
As the engine warms up, the metal spaces expand and the oil gets thinner. The oil pressure drops some under normal conditions, but not more than 10 or 15psi. Normal idle pressure with the engine warmed up is probably 25psi.
You could check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to make sure its not the sending unit.
Once the oil pressure starts staying below 20psi for long periods you'll start hearing noises.

The oil light on my 1998 Camry is on but I just got the oil changed

If it is the oil pressure warning light showing, the next thing to do is to remove the oil pressure sender unit and screw in a gauge to see if the sender is at fault.

After that it could be that the over-pressure relief valve in the oil pump has stuck open.

I have a 95 eclipse gst. wondering why the oil light comes on at low idle. when you bring up the idle it turns off.

Those oil lights come on when the oil pressure drops below a certain PSI. Usually it's about 5-7 PSI. If your oil pressure is actually dropping that far it's a sign that your engine is wearing out. The oil pressure is caused by the oil pump trying to force oil past the bearings in your engine. When the bearing get worn, it take less pressure to force the oil though the bearings, thus the pressure drops. But, the good news is, it might just be a bad sending unit for the oil light. I guess I would have a mechanic put a mechanical gauge on the engine for test purposes and see what the actual pressure is. Hopefully, it's just the sending unit, good luck.

Oil pressure gauge shows low / high / middle changed sensor did

Hello mb4494: My name is Roger and I will help you. If by changing the oil pressure sending unit the problem did not change. I would perform a oil pressure test. This is done by removing the oil pressure sensor and inserting a oil pressure gauge. This can be done by yourself or by a repair shop. This needs to be done on a cold engine. Start the engine and observe the oil pressure cold.as the engine warms up observe the pressure. The pressure will drop off as the engine warms up.Should the oil pressure drop below 10 to 12 PSI. then you have internal engine trouble. More then likely a bearing problem. Try dropping the truck into gear and see what the pressure drops off to. Again if the pressure drops below 10 to 12 PSI. you have a problem. I would also check to make sure you have the correct oil switch. a truck with a oil light uses a oil pressure switch. with a gauge you would use a oil pressure sending unit. Sorry for the long reply but want to make sure you check the pressure correctly. Please rate the quality of the answer as this is how we know the answer was correct. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

it sounds like your oil pressure sending unit may be plugged by whatever took your pressure down to 5-8 psi the first time. this is extremely low pressure as i am sure you know but at 30 psi your light should go off i would replace the sending unit if your oil pressure is holding 30

Oil pressure guage drops after engine warms up

Is it possible that you are using a different brand or weight of oil? 10w30 instead of 10w40 could potentially cause this.

Can also be caused by engine running warmer for some reason.

3 psi shouldn't be much of a concern.

You can try a heavier weight oil if you want it to be a little higher.
