2001 hyundai sonata does not accelerate properly shortly after starting

This problem started out occurring every once in a while, but now happens every time. When starting the car, after sitting as little as 1 day, it will drive slowly but cannot accelerate from a stopped position. The car drives down my small street, but I end up stuck in the middle of the road when I try to pull out onto the main road.

Check the mass airflow sensor make sure your throttle body is operating correctly and definitely change the fuel filter and sometimes there are two one under the hood and one on the frame

SOURCE: 2004 Sonata stalls out for no reason then won't start

hi there, i have a 2003 sonata and my car did the same. it stalled and the engine light stayed on but managed to get going again. i took it to Hyundai and it was the crank angle sensor. it needed replacing at NZD180.00 with 3 hours labour to do it. evidently they remove the front of the engine and cam belt etc. the workshop at Hyundai did it and charged 3 hours, not sure if that was excessive or not.

SOURCE: key is stuck in ignition in 2007 hyundai sonata

The problem is in the tumbler(s) inside the assembly. Before you do anything, try penetrating oil to see if that works... otherwise, the entire assembly will need to be replaced.

The sensor is located on the left hand rear side of the block (near the bell housing). It is held in place by a 10mm bolt. It's to the right of the exhaust manifold (LH - radiator side) on the V6. Once you purchase the new sensor you'll be able to identify it on the engine. The connector to this sensor is located in the illustration.

2006 Hyundai Sonata has intermittent no crank, no start in park. It will only start in neutral?

There are a few ideas here. The car shouldn't start in neutral, it should only start in Park and with foot on the brake. The are a number of sensors, switches and modules that make this happen. Take it to the dealership.

2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS 3.3 Check Engine and ESC light comes on; vehicle "stalls" and doesn't want to accelerate. Intermittent

You have more than one issue/problem going on. Stop Lamp switch is the most common occurance with ESC. The other is the TPS, throttle position sensor (voltage correlation).

Have a qualified Hyundai Service Technician properly diagnose your vehicle.

My 2001 Hyundai Sonata's check engine light is on and it's running really rough, trying to die when idling and surging while being driven. Could his be a sensor, or maybe a coil? Thanks for any info you...

I Have similar problems in mine. At engine idle it sounds like the engine has "hiccups" and when accelerated i lose power and sounds boggy or like the engine is choking. i ran tests and it is caused by failire of the oxygen or O2 censor. If you look at the very front of the engine at the exhaust manifold where the exhaust system starts there will be 2 plugs on the right side of the manifold and the bottom one is the o2 censor.

I have a 2001 Sonata. New battery at times I go to start and no sound I can use radio , fan, windows and lights work fine. If I wait for 15 to 40 mnutes car fires up like nothing is wrong. Problem happens...

Mine does the same. Try opening the hood and hitting the relay/fuse box and mine fires right up. This maybe a short under the box still trying to fix mine.

Turn on ignition everything works but want start

sounds like a starter. if possible without getting hurt maimed or mutilated, try tapping on the starter (best done with a rod standing beside the car) while someone holds the key in the start position. if car starts (works about 50% of the time) it's the starter. otherwise, if all lites come on, radio works, etc but nothing when you turn the key, replace the starter

Car will not start

Does the Check Engine light come ON when this happens? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we can go from there.
