Trying to repair Chevy van with codes p0420 and p0174 Need to figure out how to diagnose , to get thru inspection.
0174 is system too lean, right bank. 0420 is catalyst sytem efficiency below threshold, left bank. fix would be either oxygen sensor or catalytic converter replacement possibly would need both. note: this veh would possibly have up to 4 oxygen sensors, but cause of problem would be the ones coming off manifolds before the catalytic converter possibly in manifold or y-pipe/down pipe.

Start with fuel system. Listen for fuel pump humm at fuel tank No humm check wiring to pump for power. Then check for spark at plugs and wires. Remove wire from coil and hold near engine and see arch when you crank. No arch. Replace ignition Modular inside distributor cap or cap or rotor

SOURCE: engine codes p1518, p0125, and p0420 for 2001 firebird
P0125 sets when engine coolant temp does not reach temperature for closed loop operation within a set amount of time.
May be a faulty sensor or thermostat.
P0420 Is related to a faulty rear 02sensor.
P1518 PCM & TAC module communication detected missing or invalid serial data.
If TAC related repair has been done, clear DTC & recheck system. It may be necessary to preform clear codes function twice to clear this DTC.
make sure starting system & charging system are functioning properly. Low voltage can cause this DTC to set. This should help. Let me know how its going.
SOURCE: What is the code P1451 solution?
P0171 - System too Lean (Bank 1)
P0174 - System too Lean (Bank 2)
P1451 - EVAP Control System Canister Vent Solenoid Circuit Malfunction
I'm afraid I don't have enough info to tell you how to fix the P1451 but I'm certain it's the cause of the other two codes.

P0128 ECT Sensor Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature
P0420 Catalyst System Bank 1 Low Efficiency
P0455 EVAP System Large Leak (0.080") Detected
For the 'P0128' your engine isn't getting up to operating temerature. This could be because of a low coolant level or your thermostat is stuck open. For 'P0420', this indicates your catalyst isn't working as well as it should. If you have a four cylinder, this will be the first cat in the system, if you have a V6, then it will be the one on the driver side. Since this code can also indicate a clogged catalyst, you should get this checked at an exhaust shop. They can do a back pressure test to see if it is clogged. For the 'P0455', this indicates you have a fuel leak from the pressure system in the fuel tank. The EVAP takes fuel from the tank that builds up pressure and stores it in a canister until you start the engine. Then it shunts this fuel into the engine to be burned.
