Ford does have their own type you can get it at any parts store just tell them what it's for also at Ford

You will need to drop the trans pan to drain. In turn you will need a trans filter kit which will include the filter and gasket. As far as fluid, it will require mercon dexron auto trans fluid, and will take about 6 quarts. What I normally do is fill with 5 qts and check, then add half qt at a time till full, which is normally 6 qts.

What type of transmisson oil do I use for a 1996 ford crown victoria and oil filter

The fluid you need is called mercon type ATF this is what ford recommends to use and should say it on the bottle. as for a filter for the transmission or engine I recommend motorcraft filters they meet ford specifications and are available at most auto parts stores.

1996 Crown Vic It was recommended to get a transmission flush. Do i need a new filter? What kind of fluid will i need?

If you got trans issues,such as slipping,don't change the fluid. It will slip worse.

What is it when the transmission delays to shift?

a few different reasons first check fluid level--look and smell oil if it smells burnt have fluid and filter replaced-- filter need changing-mechanical band/gear slipping
