Humming noise and low profile tires

I just bought a 2005 Hyundai Elantra GT driven two days and at 60 mph it begins a humming noise from the right front. Is this due to low profile tires that were put on it after market. The tire sensors are being replaced soon by the dealer cause the light's on, but what I don't think that would cause a humming sound. Is there realy something serious wrong with this car?

A hum from one tyre, if the same brand as the others, could be from the wheel bearing. If this is loose or worn, it will produce a low hum. You should be able to assess that by jacking up that wheel and shaking it fore and aft and top to bottom, then, take off the wheel and slowly rotate the hub while feeling for roughness. It should feel slick as glass.

Then, the wheel may be out of round or have something stuck in the tread. To see that, swap LH and RH front tyres for a bit, but don't leave them like that forever.

SOURCE: Hyundai 1998 Elantra Growling sound from front

You have a bad front wheel bearing on the left side because you say when you turn right the noise goes away, because when you turn right the suspension lifts up on the opposite side and releives some weight on the bearing causing it to quiet down. No it is NOT a DIY repair unless you have some pretty extensive tools. the quickest easiest and least expensive way to fix this is to go to a wrecking yard and buy a steering knuckle for the left. it will have a wheel bearing already pressed into it and all you have to do is replace the whole thing and you are done. do not open any brake lines or hoses to do this job just gently press the brake caliper piston back about 1/2" so it will fit over the brake pads when you reinstall.
please rate this advice a fixya if you feel I have provided excellent service.

SOURCE: 2005 buick leSabre whine or humming noise from front end.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Buick LeSabre last year. Took it in and they determined the wheel bearing needed to be replaced. Costs about $300 per bearing, but definitely needs to be replaced as you'd be in serious trouble if the thing went out at highway speeds.

Humming noise from front left side

I hate to say it, but it sounds like something in the differential - transmission. The part about the noise and coasting fits a differential bearing noise. Making turns could put extra load on the bearings and gears in the transmission.

2005 mini cooper has loud humming noise from rear when driving above 40 mph. Any suggestions on what this could be

I had a similar issue and it ended up being a broken wheel bearing. I even ended up having two, one was broken on my front passenger side, and one broken on my rear driver side. The part costs about $280.00, but could cost around $400.00 with service repair. The noise of a broken wheel bearing can sound like a humming, and over time it becomes louder. The car can be driven with a broken wheel bearing, but doing so can eventually lead to other wheel/tire maintenance. MINI's endure this commonly due to their low profile to the ground. Here is a forum on further issues experienced, including the bearing, and efforts towards recalls. http://newmini.wordpress.com/2009/02/17/mini-cooper-power-steering-failure/#comment-884

There is a loud humming from passenger side . at it's loudest at 50 mph, noticed the same time i replaced passenger side tire. any thoughts?

It needs a wheel bearing. You should notice that the pitch of the noise changes as you change the speed of the car. Also the noise is changes when you brake and/or turn, it may even disappear all together.
