Smell of Engine compartment gases (oil/antifreeze) inside the car

Lincoln Town Car 1999, Smell of Engine compartment gases (oil/antifreeze) inside the car, whether a/c is 'on' or on 'vent'. My mechanic has already ruled out the Heater Core problem by putting up to 15 lbs pressure, there is no leak of anti-freeze. The smell is more prominent when car is idling. Just before the problem started car was driven on highway about 65 MPH with a/c 'on', a sound of breaking/rupture of some kind of diaphragm was heard, dust particles/vapors came through a/c vent for 2-3 seconds and then stopped. Now all the time smell on engine compartment is noticed 'inside' the car. What is the cause and how to fix it.

SOURCE: 2000 Lincoln Town Car (Engine Service) found a EVAP System?

Check your gas cap. If someplace can test it you might luck out. This website advertises manuals and info online. The evaporator cannister is suppose to purify excess fuel vapors. But a system which is not sealed will code an error lamp.

SOURCE: 94 Lincoln TC engine stalls when slowing/stopping

Most common cause of stalling for Lincolns in that era is the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It regulates fuel mixture, idle speed etc. A bad TPS will usually act up in one of two ways:

  1. When cold, car continually stalls
  2. When warm, car stalls when slowing down (especially if AC is on)
As far as valve cover oil leak, it's a problem that should be addressed to keep oil from fouling your spark plugs but highly unlikely to be the cause of your stalling problem. Hope this answers your question. All the best.

SOURCE: when braking, engine revs up and car moves forward

I have a 1997 Ford Explorer with same exact problem. Even worse, my engine revvs so forcibly, that the truck moved forward and struck another vehicles. You need to replace the oxygen sensor annually. My mechanic informed me that this problem is inherently prevalent in Fords. Hopes this helps? Dave

Smell antifreeze inside car

If you don't see any antifreeze leaking in the engine compartment (especially around the radiator) you could have a leaking heater core. Does the smell go away if you turn off your heater for a while? If so, that's likely where your leak is.

Theres oil mixing with my antifreeze, why i smell antifreeze inside my car while driving

You could have two problems. First, does the engine require more oil than usual, is the oil level always low ? Does the transmission lose oil ? Could possibly be the trans. cooler in the rad. is cracked. Usually with a blown head gasket you get coolant into the engine, or burn it. ( white smoke ) Has the engine ever over heated ? On the smell part, this could be the heater core is leaking. Have a pressure test on the rad. to try and help find the problems.

Sweet smell inside car and moisture on inside of windshield

This is probably a leaking heater core, which will need to be replaced. The sweet smell is the coolant (antifreeze).

I get a lot of hesitation when i press the gas pedal. I smell antifreeze on the driver's side of the truck. this is a 2000 lincoln navigator. the floor is wet with antifreeze or something. what could this...

if you use the orange antifreeze than id say you have a blown intake gasket or head gasket, combustion gases in your antifreeze makes it very acidic which probably ate a hole in your heater core and will probably eat your radiator soon if not fixed
