Disarm anti-theft system on 1996 E300

I just had this same problem with a '96 . do you have a vats key in your '94? you need to bypass the VATS system. read some of the blogs on this site and it will tell you how to do it. I fixed mine with a $2 resistor from radio shack.

two things u can try to reset the system, in stall a brand new battery, (this time and any other time u jump start your car, or any other, make double sure the ignition is in the off position), im just assuming it was on by your problem, this will make a p.c.m. do crazy things. and leave both battery cables off the new battery for at least 10-15 mins. then connect the neg. first, then the positive, some times this will reset the p.c.m.! if not its the dealer most of the time,even if u replace the p.c.m.! although u can find them on line and the seller can program theirs for your car, find a good rep one. good luck to u,hope we helped!

On my 1998 Exlorer Sport there is a set of 5 wires in a yellow sheath
running from the ignition module to a brown connection point/harness in a
very uncomfortable position directly under the steering column above
the pedals.
I unplugged the connection at this point. This stopped the
key-in-ignition chiming (part of the anti-theft feature) but I still get
the chime alerts for headlights left on, initial chime when the key is
turned. The pinging, or ringing chime comes from the multifunction
computer located under the dash behind the radio.
