Check the crank angle sensor. It is located under the alternator at the front of the engine.

Has to be fuel /air / or electrical....otherwise internal mechanical ....is timing off?

  • milespeed Dec 22, 2008

go to a different mechanic..they are guessing... baseline as i said ..mechanical tests of engine reciprocating components first!...then we look for fuel and spark next...powers and grounds on electrical (which controls fuel also)...has i t been raining where you live?

2004 Subaru forester turns over but won't start. Battery is fine, replaced coil pack still no luck

you need to check for fuel pressure next.
Could be many things, but a fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator would be prime suspects.

Car won't start

yet another subaru with a starting problem, i would start by making sure you have fuel to the motor by removing the filter hose in engine bay and turning the key on ignition then off very quickly (not when motor is hot) if fuel is there i would then try cleaning the cam and crank sensors, if they are dirty it will kill spark. If there isnt fuel it means ur fuel pump may need replaced, hope this helps.

My 99 Subaru Forester did not start. It turns over will not catch, it has gas. 2 weeks ago the same thing happened, the mechanic replaced the fuel pump and a 30 amp maxi fuse to the ECM circuit. This...

I also have a -99 Forester S turbo with the same problem. Runs like clockwork between failiures but all of a sudden engine turns but will not start. The workshop recomended fuelfilter replacement but I thaught it could have something to do with the immobilizer. what have you tried and ruled out?

The key in a friend's 1999 Forester wont turn while in the ignition, but it worked an hour before. Is it a key problem?

If you have not tried this yet. Turn the steering wheel side to side while trying to turn key. If this does not work it could be the key is worn by more than likely the lock cylender has gone bad
