My pathfinder is having issues and needs fixed; since this is our only car....Ill be driving down the road and when I slow down the engine looses power and shuts off. The car immediately starts back up, but the check engine light comes on, and then goes off in a min or two. This doesn't happen all the time, but it has been happening enough to be a problem. Also sometimes the car is hesitant to accelerate. Ill put my foot on the gas and the car wont accelerate. It sounds like total ****; like its choking. Another thing I've noticed is it occasionally jerks at high speeds. What is going on here? I wanna say its a fuel problem. Or maybe the oxygen and gas mixture is too rich. Does this sound like a bad O2 sensor, fuel filter, or something else? I just spent 100 bucks on a new distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires.
Anytime the check engine light comes on, you check the computer for trouble codes. The codes will not tell you what to replace, but rather what to check.
Let me know what you find out.

Check vacuum leaks , by spraying carburator cleaner around intake manifold gasket and vacuum hoses connections . See if engine picks up the idle speed while you doing it , and if it does , locate leak and fix it. Most common , intake manifold gasket brakes.

I have a 95 nissan pathfinder and they changed the diagnostic computers in 96. Ive called all over the place and noone around has a OBD I they all have ODB II. I did find another way of checking the codes. Just gotta look at the ECU and read the flash pulse codes....Where is the mass air flow sensor at???
