The oxygen sensors are located in 4 positions Bank 1 is the passenger side of the vehicle on Ford's 2 driver side. Bank 1 sensor 1 is at the bottom of the exhaust manifold where it connects to the exhaust pipes. Bank 1 sensor 2 is underneath the vehicle just past the catalytic convertor. Bank 2 is exactly the same as one but obviously on the other side.

SOURCE: o2 sensor location

DTC P0156 indicates the output voltage of the downstream Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) is less than some calibratable functional window. The possible causes are:

  1. Pinched, shorted and/or corroded wiring and pins.
  2. Crossed sensor wires
  3. Exhaust leaks.
  4. Contaminated HO2S.
  5. Bad HO2S.
Since you didnt specify the engine size in your vehicle - please see the diagram below for the location of the sensor(s)

Bank one is toward the front of the vehicle. Sounds like the heated oxygen sensors have gone bad. The Oxygen Sensors are located in the exhaust pipe and require a special socket to remove and replace.

SOURCE: location of the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor on a 2001 ford escape

B1 means the sensor is located on the same bank of the engine that has the #1 cylinder. B2 is located on the opposite bank.
S1 means the sensor is located BEFORE the catalytic converter
S2 means the sensor is located AFTER the catalytic converter

You didn't say which engine you have, so I've included the diagrams of both 4 cyl and 6 cyl so you can see the banks

What size and how many heated o2 sensors are on a 2004 ford freestar sel?

The 2004 Ford Freestar SEL is equipped with a V6 engine, and it typically has two heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) due to its dual exhaust system. These sensors are also commonly referred to as oxygen sensors or O2 sensors. The specific details may vary depending on the exact engine and exhaust configuration of your vehicle.
  1. Bank 1 Sensor 1 (B1S1): This is the upstream oxygen sensor located before the catalytic converter on the side of the engine where cylinder 1 is located. It monitors the oxygen content in the exhaust gases before they enter the catalytic converter.
  2. Bank 2 Sensor 1 (B2S1): This is the upstream oxygen sensor located before the catalytic converter on the side of the engine where cylinder 2 is located. Similar to B1S1, it monitors the oxygen content in the exhaust gases before they reach the catalytic converter.
These sensors play a crucial role in monitoring the air-fuel mixture and helping the engine control module (ECM) adjust fuel delivery for optimal performance and emissions.
Please note that vehicle specifications can vary, and it's always best to refer to your vehicle's owner's manual or consult with a qualified mechanic to get accurate and specific information about the number and location of oxygen sensors in your particular 2004 Ford Freestar SEL.

The bank has to do with which side of the engine. The 'Sensor 1' indicates that it is upstream of the catalytic converter.

Yes my truck is 1998 ford f 150 4.2 an i have code po174

DTC code p0174 means "System too lean (Bank 1)"

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exahust). On V6/V8/V10 engines

, Bank 2 is generally the side of the engine that doesn't have cylinder #1.
