Speedometer doesn't work and transmission won't shift on 1996 eclipse

The car has been working fine. It sat for about 6 months, the battery went bad. I put a new battery in it, and now the speedo stays on 0 and the car stays in one gear. Check engine lite is on. I put both speed sensors in and it is still the same. It worked perfect when I parked it. Thank you.

SOURCE: the transmission wont shift out of 2nd gear again.

i can answer part of your question. the front wheel speed sensors are for abs and trac control only. these will not affect the speedo your problem is some where else. sorry i have not had this prob yet good luck. you could have to replace the rear wheel speed sensor again. they are not that good. and after market are even worse.

SOURCE: Transmission won't shift properly (2 wd ) speedo does not work

Its weird but I had a fuse blow out awhile back that is the same fuse that works the cab lights when you open the doors. When this fuse went out it also made it shift odd and hard when it did shift. Since it is only intermittent in your case, It may just be a weak fuse.

SOURCE: Speedometer goes to 0 and trans downshifts

There are 2 speed sensors on the transaxle. One is for vehicle speed and one is for trans output shaft speed. My guess is that you replaced the one for output shaft speed.

SOURCE: I HAVE A 1999 DODGE STATUS - TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS

your ultradrive transmisson has failed, and your stuck in limp home mode. you have 3rd and reverse.

that was the good news.

the bad is that you need a new transmission. the ultradrive transmissions are very problematic. do a wikipedia.org search on chyrsler ultradrives and than write a really angry letter.

your not the only one that transmission has left of the side of the road

SOURCE: 2000 sonata check engine lite came on,

The output speed sensor is located on top of the transmission output shaft, this will send speed value to the transmission control module (TCM).
The vehicle speed sensor is installed on the differential of the transmission, and sends speed value to speed gauge on instrument cluster.

Check also IAC valve and look for vacuum leaks using an hand tool gauge(Vacuum Gauge and Fuel Pump Pressure).

I am no Honda expert, but a similar problem happened to my ex sister in-laws Ford Taurus. The speed odometer would jump around and it had trouble shifting (automatic transmission). After driving it I changed out the speed odometer sensor on the transmission and it's been fine ever since. I changed out the sensor because if the cars computer cannot tell how fast the car is traveling then fail safes in place go into effect and the computer will do it's best to keep the cars rpm's down based on the speed indicator and not let it shift or shift properly either. If it's getting false speeds then it will shut down the motor when the speed gets to high and allow it to run as the speeds fall (jumping speed odometer needle). It effects the transmission shift points also. It will either shift erratically or not shift out of say 2nd gear, so that the cars engine can't get damaged based on what signal the speed sensor is sending the computer.

1999 chevy suburban k1500 4wd eletrical problems?

As far as the speedometer not working and the transmission not shifting; I'd check the speed sensor connection on the tail of the transmission and follow the wiring to see if it is cut somewhere. If the PCM doesn't get a signal from the speed sensor, the transmission won't shift. Did the auto have wires get chewed by rats after sitting?

Chevy s10 1996 speedometer doesn't work and not shifting correctly

i had the same problem. I replaced the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor), mounted on transfer case if you have 4wheel and mounted on transmission if you have 2wheel. I also replaced the brake fuse. Then I disconnected the battery waited a little bit and then reconnected it. And what do you know it was all fixed up.

vehicle speed sensor on the transmission, it fails and the speedometer will not work, it could affect shifting because the computer does not know the speed you are traveling
