1998 Jeep Cherokee Laredo Starting Problem

I have had this Jeep for several months and had no problems. I went out today to start it up and hit the remote to unlock the doors and worked fine, put the key in the ignition and got nothing but there was a clicking in the back hatch lock? Never seen this before. Any idea what the problem might be? Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Check the fuel pump the clicking coming from the back could be from that and it could cause the jeep to not start.

My 1998 Jeep had problems staling alot replaced all sensors still staled, by accident my Nephew found that the rt connector on PCM had a broken clip underneath, wire connector has 2 clips one on top n one on bottom. the one on the bottom was broken so it wasnt making good contact with PCM, so he put a stick between connector n a/c pipe so its snug but not to tight n no more staling. I have a friend that also had same problem, so i told her what i did n she used 2 zip ties one around connector n other around PCM n connector, n that also fixed her problem. hope this helps out .GL

Can i use a transmition from 1998 grand cherokee laredo 4wd to a jeep laredo 1998 4.0 4wd. will work same trnsmition?

Hi Jose, I've never tried but if you go visit a breakers yard and compare the physical dimensions of both boxes and they match up, there is no reason why they should not. Most manufactures use the same units in a variety of models and if you've found a similar vehicle with identical uses the parts are most likely interchangeable. Regards John

I have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee laredo. We let it sit for about a month without starting it and it had no gas. Yesterday we went to start it, it would turn on amd only run for about 3 seconds and them...

The fuel system will require further cleaning, Gas turns to gum if left standing, although a month is not really long enough for that to happen. If it is fuel injected, injector cleaner MAY work, if it is a carburetter you can try a carb spray cleaner but the best bet is to at the very least lift the top off the carb and clean out the float chamber and blow air through all the jets and orifices. This includes the mixture control screws, making sure you turn them back in to the same position they were in originally.

1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo starting problems

Check to see if the fuel pump is running after it shuts down...could be a relay or the pump itself (overheating internally) Checked the fuel filter yet? Some crank sensors need to be shimmed. If it's too close to the flywheel even though you recently changed it, if it's too close to the wheel it can fail again. May not be the case but worth checking over. Also check the ceramic resistor on the left fender near the master cylinder if you have one. That too can cause problems.

My 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo will not start.

cj2176 is correct, we need a lttle more info. Sounds like it will need a new fuel pump or something related to it. Since it starts on starting fluid it has compression and air and spark, just no fuel. Fuel pumps can just stop working while driving, and if not working obviously will not start. No caodes will be set for a fuel pump not working. If it cranks but does not start have someone pound on the bottom of the fuel tank with a fist or small rubber mallet lightly (don't damage the tamk) while your cranking the engine. If it starts, the fuel pump module in the tank is bad.

Does the vehicle crank for extended period of time upon first starting? If so the fuel pump needs replacing.

1991 jeep cherokee laredo won't start

you can test your signal wire to the starter by having someone turn the key to start while you put a test light on the signal wire at the stater. If there is no signal on the light then there is a problem with the sending wire from the ignition.
