2007 volkswagen fan turns on by itself and runs high and drains battery

Fan turns on in the mmiddle of the night and races extremely high (sounds like a jet engine!) and drains the battery and cannot put car in neutral to push out of driveway for a jump. Have to have tow truck come and use a jump box. New battery was purchased 6/25/2012 so its not a old battery. Volkswagen replaced the termoswitch 10 days ago and the same thing happened 2 nights ago, 4 times that I am aware of before it stopped coming back on and off because I kept taking videos to show the dealership and the car is back in the shop. Also, this time, when the fans were racing the lights on the interior of the car kept coming on and dimming off. Any suggestions?

I would say it's a bad temp sending unit.

You need to charge your battery up more. Either get a battery charger or leave the jumper cables hooked up for a longer period of time.
Your battery was probably completely dead. You might even need a new battery...they really don't like to be completely drained.

SOURCE: 2000 jetta has multiple alternator and battery failures

In my case, the instrument cluster was bad, causing the MFI display and radio to go haywire and putting a contstant drain on the battery. $760 to have the VW shop replace it. No problems related to the battery or alternator have occurred since.

Good luck.

2007 chrysler pt cruiser cooling fan does not work with ac

If refrigerant is low , high side pressure may not be high enough to engage the pressure switch to kick on the fans. Have the a/c system evac'd and recharged to capacity then recheck fan operation. Also, extreme cold weather can reduce high side pressure on a fully charged system preventing fans from coming on.

Headlight problem

Its sounds like the either the headlamp switch or the dimmer switch. The dimmer switch may be separate from the multi-function lever or you may have to get the whole thing replaced.

When i turn off the car the fan continues to run?

Many cars have this feature. The fan will run for a few minutes at a time until the coolant in the radiator drops below a certain temperature. Most vehicles with this feature will have a warning label on the radiator shroud indicating that the fan may start without warning when the engine or radiator is still hot. The only time you would need to be concerned would be if the fan continues to run without turning itself off, and causing the battery to be drained.

Im having problems with my electrical in my 1988 vw fox when i turn my lights on it my car dies and its killing my battery when its not running

is your alternator ok.
secondly, to test if there's a drain on the circuit somewhere, switch everything off,
disconect one battery terminal and touch the wire slightly to the terminal. if there's a spark,
then something is draining your battery. (its usually ok for a smallish spark and usually only once)

to test if alternator is ok, rev the car at night with your high beams on. it should be different from
what it looks like when you start it.

hope this helps.

Ac is not working i think is a relay because the ac cluch wont star

If you have cooling fans, then it could be your compressor itself. If you hit the A/C button, and there's no cooling fans, try a new "Cooling Fan Control Module" it's a common problem on early 2000 VW's.

The electric fan will not turn off.

disconnect the relay and see if fan turns off, that is the most common problem the relay contacts burn closed

My 2007 ford focus, everytime I turn my car off the fan is still running for more than 15 minutes. Do I need to get my car serviced and will it run my battery down?

I wouldn'tworry too much about the fan running after you turn off the vehicle, most newer cars are equipped to do that. As far as running your battery down, the power that the fan uses after the vehicle is turned off will actually run off the surface charge of the battery, you shouldn't have any problems with it draining your battery. Hope this helps.

Electric fans runs after car is shut off, drains battery

Having the fan run on for a bit after the engine has stopped is not abnormal in itself, but 20 minutes sounds excessive.

If the fan does eventually shut off, I'd consider changing the thermoswitch (this is a sensor screwed into the radiator somewhere near the bottom, with a pair of wires connected to it - to change it, you'll need to drain the cooling system).

If the fan stays on continuously until the battery is completely flat, see what happens when you unplug the wires from the thermoswitch. If this stops the fan, you need to replace the thermoswitch. If it doesn't, then you need to examine the wiring associated with the switch and the fan, looking for damaged insulation.
