Need to perform rear brake pad change on 2006 Volvo V70 AWD 2,5T wagon

Rear brake pads down to 3-4 mm, like to install new pads, have no shop manual to look up installation process. However, I am an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC AND DONE AUTOMOBIL BRAKES OFTEN, BUT NEVER ON A VOLVO.

Brakes are brakes, push in , turn in, or two piece calipers. remove wheel , remove two bolts that hold caliper in place, remove replace pads if rotors look good if not remove caliper retainer and rotor replace or have resurfaced at local part store with service. if push in piston push in with c-clamp or piston tool, if turn in will be solid on top with slots for tool to turn in turn to right, tool can be gotten at parts store, if two piece take apart and put back then bleed brakes.

SOURCE: My 1999 xc v70 awd volvo wagon has a rear brake getting hot

the first thing you want to check is whether or not it has a heavy drag at the wheel caused by wrong pads, sticking caliper, improperly installed parts. Lift the car and try to turn the wheel. Just because they are certified does not mean they know everything. I'm certified too, but I also have experience with euros and the quality of parts that need to be used. If inferior quality parts are used it will cause this. It can create all kinds of problems and noises. Take it back until they get it right. Ask them what brand of parts they use. Let me know and if they give you any grief, contact me and I will advise accordingly.

I have a 2006 Volvo XC 90 and need brakes, I have been told that I will need to replace the rotors, is this true? and why?

Did they tell you why you need to replace the rotors? Sometimes you need to do this if you waited to long to change the brake pads and you have metal against mnetal and it warps the brake rotor. I would recommend going to get another company to look at the brakes to make sure that you are not being sold a bill of goods you don't need. I hope that this helps! I have the same car and have been driving Volvo's for years. Do you know when you changed out the front brakes last? That may help you some to know but if you do a lot of stop and go driving, you would need to change the brake pads more frequently. Usually the front brakes go sooner than the rear but I am not sure if this is true with awd. But this is my first awd too.

At times the brake pedal will go almost to the floor when depressed. If you pump it once it will come right up. The pads look to have about 3/8" of material still left on them and the master cylinder if...

this problem is caused by a defective brake master cylinder, the seals are leaking that pressurize the fluid in the chambers of the cylinder, at 166.000 miles you have had a good run with part, they fail around 100,000-125,000 miles no matter the model.

Changing rear brake pads

For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also.
But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!!
For front brake pads. First you must verify yours front brake disc diameter: 280 mm or 288 mm. (On my car y have 288 mm). After that you can buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:
1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).
4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier.
5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!
7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing.
8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
11. Install both caps.
12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

I want to change the rear brake pads on a 1995 Volvo V70. They made a dreadful scraping noise and I think the pad has worn right through or disappeared

sounds like its to late..the scrapping noise is rotors or pads gouging the drums or rotor surface, both these can be repaired if within spec....take them off and to a repair shop and the tell you if they can be repaired.

Volvo V70 xc AWD '98 - fuel filter change

Brandonlo168,

The fuel filter can be located under the carpeted cargo storage floor at the rear of the wagon. Remove the four 10mm bolts, remove the cover. You will then see a removeable plate to the right just behind the rear passenger seat. Fuel filter can be seen through hole in hole. Replaced from underneath wagon. Be sure to make sure lines are fully inserted onto filter. Check for leaks. No smoking, extinguisher handy. Note arrow on filter for correct fuel flow.
