Sounds like the wheel speed senser is not working properly when you are in all wheel drive the computer uses the brakes to keep the all wheels rolling at the same speed for good traction if one speed senser is reading that right side front wheel was going faster than the others it would activated that brake via the antilock brake system

My 2003 gmc envoy xl will not engage into 4 wheel drive help.

check fuses, if they check out I would look at cable/linkage that attaches shift lever to transmission. If it don't have a 4x4 shifter it's probably the switch that puts it in 4x4.

Will not go in to 4 wheel drive

Since this is done electrically today with no light on dash I would check the switch that you move to engage the 4X4 action.

The 4x4 Hi and Lo will not engage. The winter driving conditions now are ice, snow and a hill to climb. Rear wheels just spin. Help!

I have heard that the electric 4x4 push buttons in some Envoys get sticky and don't function right. Maybe disassemble and clean these after checking fuses? I have tons of ideas, but they're not always good. Good luck.

Clicking noise when I turn right on 4 wheel drive. now if I put the truck on 2 wheel drive its automatically goes to 4 wheel drive.

Have your right front Constant Velocity (c.v ) Driveshaft check out. Noise goes away on 2 wheel drive is there is no torq on the shaft like there is on 4 wheel drive. Bad c.v.shaft. Hope this was very helpful.

Wont shift back from 4x4 low, to 2x2

I also have a 2002 Envoy. Shifting to and from 4wh and 4wa can be done on the fly but shifting to 4wL has to be done stoped and while in neutral. Try that. Otherwise I'm afraid its a new computer for you. Its located under the left rear seat and you need a loan for one.
