Technically the idle speed is not adjustable. The computer controls idle speed with the idle speed control motor.
Base idle is around 500 RPM with normal idle in park at 800.

I have a 1986 Ford Mustang 5.0, I cleaned the throttle body and now the engine idles high, there are no vacuum leaks. What could it be?

You need to reset the idle. I have an 06 Pathfinder and anytime I clean the TB it messes up some volumetric calculation and I have to go through a relearn procedure. Seems similar on your Mustang. The removal of junk allows extra air to flow through and the system needs to be reset.

*UPDATE* 1984 Mustang Won't stay running

Hi

You need to check if the Idle control jets are set properly, these are the 2 screws near the base plate on this type of carburettor.

Screw them fully in, then on the primary side screw it out 2.5 turns.
On the secondary side screw this out 1.75 turns. This should get your idle up.

If this dosn't work then you have got problems with the idle jet system which means you need to pull the emulsion tubes out and jets out to clean them.

Also check that your Idle screw is screwed in enough to allow the throttle to be open enough to idle.

Hope this helps

Thanks

The 1984 Toyota 4x4 pickup truck will not idle

On a 1984 Toyota I would look for a screw to set the low speed idle on the carburetor, if so equipped. Turn the screw until the RPMs are reasonable.

If you can maintain a smooth idle by adjusting the screw your home free.

If not, then there could be other problems with your vehicle's emission, ignition, comprression, or fuel.

1984 mustang overheats

You need to describe a bit more about the problem. How fast does it heat up? Does it only overheat when you are at idle or when driving? Any recent work done to the car.
Engine size?
