Code 1684 says the computer has lost battery voltage in the last 50 starts, and code 1685 means the security code in the key is not valid.
You may have to have the computer flashed by the dealer to match the original settings in the original computer.

SOURCE: we change the computer in

What most likely is wrong is that the computer you have installed still has the VIN number stored in it from another vehicle, thus when you go to start it it doesn't see the information it is looking for and the "SKIM" or Sentry Key Immobilizer Module won't let the vehicle run. The fix is to have the computer reprogrammed by a dealer or by another shop that has this capability. Be aware that there is the possibility that the computer you have installed [if it is a used one from a similar vehicle] may still not work in your vehicle as some just aren't compatable with each other due to other programming and design issues. If it was a remanufactured computer you installed then most of them come without being programmed and also have to be reprogrammed before they will work. Good luck, hope this helps out a bit.

SOURCE: what to do with code

If the vehicle runs fine other than the P1684 code then it is probably the result of the battery being disconnected sometime in the recent past.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: what are troubleshooting codes P1684 and P0456?

If both codes came at the same time and you didn't take the battery cable off, you need a purge solenoid, $40 near master cylinder. Put 3/4 tank of gas and the light will go out buy the time you get to 1/4 tank.

SOURCE: I have fault codes P1684 & P0340 on my 2002

P1684 The battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts.

P0340

This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.
Symptoms Symptoms can include:

  • Hard starting or no start
  • Rough running / misfiring
  • Loss of engine power
Causes A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed
Possible Solutions With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
  • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
  • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
  • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
  • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
  • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
  • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
  • Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

Getting p1685 code on 2002 sebring

Well four digit codes are brand specific, which means they can have different meanings depending on the car.
According to my source, P1685 for Chrysler-Dodge is for a problem with the clutch switch, if it has a manual trans.

2002 Chrysler PT cruiser has only 28,000 miles the engine light came on. I retrieved error codes p0134, p1684 and P1685. I found a list of the codes but no description. Can you tell me what these mean

I found the codes & basic (VERY basic) descriptions from these sources:
http://www.ptcruiserclub.ru/ptobderr.htm

http://kentuckyptcruisers.weebly.com/obdii-codes.html

Code P0134 O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 1) - something to do with the O2 sensor circuit, but beyond that I'm not sure.

Code P1685 Skim Invalid Key - Security system issue. I got this answer from the Dodge Forum:

"The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) is part of the security system and kills the vehicle when a wrong key is used. There may be a problem with your key or the chip reader in the ignition switch. This is something the dealer will need to determine for sure. This code will also be set if someone actually tried to steal the vehicle."

My 2002 pt cruiser died while I was driving first the oil light came on then it just died! I just had the oil changed 3 days prior to it dying some of the codes I received were 0340 1684 1685...

P0340 is cam position sensor. P1685 is for the key(has a chip in it) P1684 is battery has been disconnected. If the engine will still crank then codes P1684 & P1685 are probably old codes. So if the car will still crank, lets forget about those codes and focus on P0340 A bad cam position sensor will cause the engine to die and not allow it to start back up. Replace the cam position sensor and clear the code and the car should start up.

I got two odometor codes p1684 and p0700 do you know what it means 2002 chysler town and country

P0 700 is a transmission control malfunction and P1684 is a indication that your battery was disconnected within the last fifty states. However what is puzzling is your PO 700 is a generic code your P1684 is a dedicated Chrysler code your cars computer should only store one or the other not both.
