1999 VW Passat with Power Steering Hose Leak

"I have a 1999 VW Passat 2WD V6 with a power steering hose leaking. It is one of the hoses from the reservoir to the pump. The metal section has a kink in it (I assume from an accident) and is leaking. HOW DO I REPLACE OR REPAIR THIS HOSE?"

SOURCE: Replacing the power steering pressure hose in my 2004 Jetta

This is not going to be the answer you want.

get a second opinion, it may not be the pressure line.

then pay the mechanic to repair or replace the defective part.

While it is not that difficult of a task with the proper tools and equipment, doing it in the driveway or home garage can be a real pain.

If you are really wanting to do this, go to your local library and see if they have a Chiltons manual for your car that you can check out. It will give you step by step instructions.

Go to www.vagcat.com and sign up for your car (it's free). Once you've done so, you can browse through exploded diagrams for your car, and each diagram has the manufacturer's part numbers for each part listed.

Thermostat is most likely. Try that first, then my next choice would be water pump. Good luck.

SOURCE: low pressure power stering hose

It runs next to the high pressure hose from the pump to the reservoir. It's 3/4 inch hose, it's held on with clamps, unlike the high pressure hose that has compressed fittings. Your best bet is to remove the hose and match it up with a parts store.

Power Steering Reservoir Hose Leak

In a word, You don't.
If you have a breakers yard near you you might be able to rob one from a scrapper(wreck)
The metal and rubber pipes are replacement only which leaves 2 options
Get a buddy to the wreckers yard
Pop down to the dealer but don't expect them to have a slow moving part like this on the shelf.
Sorry about the Brit terminology.

Power steering leak on 2003 CHEVY impala V6 3.8

When a power steering pump begins to fail, it's best to replace the pump and both pressure and return hoses to this system.
Recommend you replace this as soon as possible because it could eventually cause damage to your steering rack and pinion.

Leaking oil front right of engine 323i 2000?

This could be power steering fluid...a common leak on all BMW's or an upper valve cover gasket leak.

The hoses on the power steering are clamped with a ring clamp and the rubber shrinks slightly and fluid leaks out. You can replace all those clamps with conventional Hose Clamps from your parts store. The power steering oil reservoir has a lower hose from it which commonly leaks.

It leaks onto the coolant hose running below it and the coolant hose eventually splits, discharging all the coolant.

If it is the cam cover gasket, this involves a little more work. The gasket is available from you dealer or parts house.

I have a slow power steering fluid leak in my 2001 vw beetle how much would it cost to fix. and where could the problem be coming from

could be a leak in the pressure hose, could be the return hose leaking, could be the gearbox leaking,i'd get under it with the engine running and have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth and see where it leaks from, if the pressure line is leaking its about 25 to 30 bucks for a new hose,

I have a 2000 Kia Spectra. I have a bad power steering leak in one of my power steering hoses. I need to know if this hose is the power steering hose or the power steering suction hose?

The the power steering hose is also refered to as the high pressure hose if that is the one thats leaking it's usually easy to find out. While you watch for leaks on the hoses have the car running and have someone turn the steering wheel all the way right or left til it stops it usually will squeal, that is when the hose is at the highest pressure if it's the one leaking you should see it
