Since Janurary I've been troubleshooting this car. I recently fixed the starter issue I was having. Fixed the fuel related issues that I was having... the car ran very kinda good.... until I ran out of gas apparently... But eventually fixed that problem. The car, since I've had it, was always acting like it had a miss... even though all of my spark plugs were firing, all injectors (recleaned) are going, and I have great fuel pressure, the car has always been hesitant. But recently, I decided to drive the car 5 miles away... only made it 3 miles though before the car cut off on me. Just died. I cranked the car over several times, and it just wouldn't start. Plus, now when I turn the car over, it turns and turns then suddenly pauses before turning again. Feels like a misfire to me... I do this until battery dies. (People at shop wouldn't give me a jump at the time either) So I let it sit a few hours... and eventually got a jump from some guy, turn the key... crank... crank... crank... KA-BOOOOOOM!!!! The muffler explodes into almost three pieces. Too much gas in the exhaust system. It was so loud, people actually heard it a little over a mile away. Towed the car home. A few days later, I charge up the battery to it's fullest potential, go through all of my sensors(many of them recently replaced), hook up my battery and try to start it up.... around my fifth crank, a long flame shoots from my throttle body along with a slight 'WOOOSH'... nothing stayed aflame though. But the neighbors thought it was impressive :-D Now before the exploding muffler and the car trying to become a dragon, I did notice that I had lots of excessive smoke and (on one occasssion) a little bit of gas coming back up the intake system. My plugs are sometimes soaked in gasoline and the car just doesn't want to start most of the time... a couple times, it seems like it might want to, but doesn't. I've checked my coils, along with the ignition module... everything new there... seems to be no issue there. I believe that it could possibly be the Crankshaft Position Sensor... a bad one could throw the timing way off.... Right? I guess the question I want to ask is this, should I just go ahead and check that out or go ahead and check out the timing chain and gears? Or if you have any other ideas (besides scrapping it), it would be much obliged. It's a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S wit da 3300 (3.3L V6 [VIN N])... I've done a lot of work to this car already. No bad codes apparently

First step is see the Condition of the oil.
Them you need to see if the ENGINE is NOT LOCKED UP.
To Do that, you will need a Rachet and Socket to Try TURN the CRANKSHAFT pulley by Hand.
If you are ABLE to Rotate,
And the Battery is good, Check all the Connection from the BATTERY to the STarter motor,
And the Ground Cable. From battery To the Chassis and the Bolt at the Transmission.
But if you are Unable to TURN over the Crankshaft Pulley.
The Engine is Locked up.
And will need to take a Opinion of a Mechanic .
To be sure Of the problem and the condition that may affect to the ENGINE went damaged.
I hope this help on your problem.
Thank you for use fixya...
SOURCE: won't start
it could be a bad crankshaft sensor or a bad coil on the aurora on the cutlass there is a kill switch but i dont remember where its located

could it be the A/C pump kicking in. might be boging down the motor or electrical circuit, not letting the injectors get enough power. This could happen if the bearings are going bad in th A/C pump or there is a short in it. Just an idea. sounds like you have done the main components.

Possibly fuel pressure regulator, have you done a pressure test on it? may also be partially plugged injector.
